Ill keep my F30 330d LCI. Its a pitty they stopped making G20 330d. But even then to pay over a million for a G20 now to upgrade cosmetics from my F30 330d with 126 000km is crazy. BMW has contacted me trying to sell a new BMW and I told them do they have a current vehicle that can give me the power of a 330d with the consumption of the 330d and the awnser was no but they can offer a 340i for power or a 320d for economy. Yes a newer model will slways feel better and improvements made but to me its minor. I remember when I got my 330d there were rattles and sqeuqs snd I managed to silence them all. F30 usually has x3 main culprets and they are the high level brake light cover, The backboard where it slots in at the window and if you have gloss black trim there is a teflon tape and avoid using shampoos with wax in them.

hehehe looks like most F30 330d guys aren't willing to let go of their cars . I'm also not willing to let go of mine, but I'd love to own the G20 M340i. Having been in one and driving the G20 M340i LCI, I think the difference between F30 and G20 are miles apart. G20 feels more solid.

Yes it might be so but the price of a new 340i now is just to high its strong but when it comes to fuel economy and power ratio the 340i wont win the 330d. Problem is my F30 330d LCI is not giving me any problems. It just idles on on the open road

Drive an M340i on the open road and decide. I averaged 7.1 on my last Durban trip with mixed driving (it was around the 6.6 mark until i got bored) . Even on my average home to work route (Centurion to Randburg) is actually surprisingly "light" on fuel.

Dont get me wrong it can be heavy on fuel if you drive it hard but its really not that heavy on fuel if driven like a normal human. Actually the g20 M340i is lighter on fuel than the F30 340i (Stock for Stock)

As cars a progressing and being refined the petrol and diesel consumptions are getting closer to each other if you compare stats on newer models

Good point. On the open road, the B58’s are very frugal (I achieved similar figures in the baby 40i). At an average of 6.6l/100km, as Karsh mentioned above, you’re really only consuming 10 to 15litres more of fuel for every 1000km compared to a 330d (assuming savings of -1 to-1.5l/100km for the 330d that is). So that’s about R250 to R300 extra for fuel (assuming R25 per litre) been the two, which, if you’re able to afford either vehicle, especially the beastly m340i, shouldn’t be a consideration. Obviously, if you do cover more mileage and/or do a lot more urban runs, then the difference becomes wider. So if you’re doing double the distance, but over the same open road driving conditions OR the same mileage but urban driving (with 340i consuming up to 3l/100km more), then the rand difference doubles to R600. If you’re doing both double the mileage with urban driving, it increases to R1200 extra month. Again, this is not an immaterial figure for most, but in the circles that are considering a decently specd and maintained F30 330d, and an m340i, R1200 should not be a deal breaker. It’s just under the cost of an additional tank of fuel (at most) which is quite acceptable for the crazy (no third party mods and tunes necessary) performance, sublime engine note and awd handling on hand, for the m340i that is.

So long story short, either should be fine, in terms of fuel costs, if you’re a reasonable driver. With the fuel savings out of the way, there’s a clear preference for me here.
