BMW parts on back order from Germany

Hi

I was told that a part for my X3 (a steering wheel plastic clip/ring that links to the indicator stalk) is on back order from Germany. The steering wheel makes a clicking noise when turning. Dealer confirmed that it is not a safety critical part.

Anyway, it has been 2-3 weeks and still no ETA.

Just want to find out what is the usual back order times for parts of this nature? Is anyone else in the back order queue currently? I know there are supply chain issues, but should not be as bad as last year.

My car was supposed to be done in 10 days... many weeks later (total repair took nearly 2 months because of this) the part on back order finally arrived. The problem was that it was back order IN Germany and THEN only was it dispatched to SA. There were apparently many M cars waiting for the exact same cooling pipe. Supply chain issues due to the various wars (physical conflict and trade) mean that they have had to actually change sourcing for some parts entirely. The issues should improve over time (there are guys who were waiting a month longer than I was already in that queue but we were all fulfilled together once the supply was 'fixed'.

Thanks for the feedback.

Similar issue on my Volvo too with no ETA from Sweden.

Hyundai is facing the same. Shipping and materials are a big issue post COVID and the Ukraine/Russia thing isnt helping.

Transnet is striking too, there are 100's of containers with backorders sitting at the docks, untouched.
its not going improve for a long time...

This is going to be a catastrophe of epic proportions, especially with Transnets new rules that were implemented.

All depends , I remember ordering an umbrella and it took 2 weeks, i also remember ordering a tow hook cover for my old Z4, part only came after 3 months and was incorrect, waited another month and received the same incorrect part again.
This was pre covid.

I waited about 2 maybe 3 weeks for a large part to be shipped in the last month. It really depends, but I know once or twice the parts dept was able to book it in as priority then it took 1 week. That was prior to covid though.

My Polo is at the dealership also awaiting parts on back order, 2 weeks so far and ETA is not looking likely to be anytime soon. every week they expect it to be released, there is another delay on the supply side. Many other cars also awaiting parts too.

I can tell you from experience that these delays are not exclusive to the car/components manufacturing industry. Supply chains globally are under severe pressure and it will take some time before things normalize.
