So it appears that my N54 has run a bearing
There is an engine knock and metal filings in the oil filter.
My mechanics will only be able to strip and check it out properly in the another month or so due to their current workload. They are going to send me some indicative prices, but I know that it won't be cheap.
It's a 2008 model with low mileage (105K kms) and manual gearbox, but I'm not sure if it is worth spending a load of cash on repairing it, or finding a donor engine with an uncertain history. The other options would be to sell as is, or sell off the parts... Neither of these last two options are very attractive
Luckily I have another car, so I'm not in any rush to make a decision, but I would welcome any advice, or a recommendation for another dependable BMW MECHANIC in Cape Town.
