Let’s hear the juicy stories, spill the beans.

The one that got away?
And your lucky streak.

I am still enjoying my E46’s as they afford me time whilst sorting my life out.

Wish list is long so is it’s money requirements.

So what’s your story?

My beloved Honda S2000 is the greatest regret… I should have just sold my Subaru and I’d still have comfortably been able to add the F10. Instead the S2000 went (and so quickly and for so much that I didn’t have the time to even think twice)

The one I am most glad I kept is actually my 4C. I was on the verge of selling the 4C and buying either an FF or 458. Glad I kept the 4C and added the F90. I thought I would miss my F10 more - but the F90 continues to keep me happy.

Enjoyment trumps the image or dream status of some of these things

In Jan One of the YouTubers I follow that had one experienced that R700K failure on the FF gearbox that I was dreading 😂… literally woke up one day to that kind of bill 😂 could have been me. Wheels and suspension on my F90 are not close to the 100k cost of a Ferrari 1 year warranty and I have no feelings of terror that something might go wrong - its one thing to get a 200K repair bill out of plan - quite another when you could potentially park your car and wake up to a bill north of 500K... Unfortunately the ones that I could realistically get into were far from perfect with repairs and missing options as well as high (or questionable) mileage to add into the equation as well. The older cars have aged horribly as well in some instances (of all brands)

Anyway back to the enjoyment aspect: will I be able to regularly track a Ferrari or GT3? No cos just running costs are so insane for track use let alone track insurance and potential repair bills. 4C is comfortable for me for now.

I still do want my prancing horse or bull before 40 comes though... even though arguably the garage already has 'better' cars than the ones within range are likely to be.

The one car I regret selling is my Polo 9n3 1.6 comfortline. Not a days issue, just jump in start and go. Wish I could keep her. The one that got away

Back in 2016, I traded my 2006 VW polo 2.0 for R50k on a 2007 e92 335i.. The excitement for 335i got the better of me, should have kept the Polo as a daily..
I ended up using the 335i and racked up 160 000km in 5 years.. Oh well the 335i is gone as well..
Got a 330d now, love it.. But I sometimes miss the exhaust tone 😕 ! I had the perfect daily v weekender, until lockdown dictated that one must go..20201114_130634.jpg

A bit of a boring choice.
The one car I regret trading in was my 2007 Volvo C30 2.0i manual.
I was young and dumb and didn't realise what a great car that was, especially at the price I had paid for it.
Only 107kw, but built like a mini tank with excellent ride quality and a genuine feeling of solidity
Also, despite being a 2 door, had decent rear passenger space for 2.
Light on fuel, fairly compact and would make a decent (and safe) runaround car today.FB_IMG_15816297946891687.jpg

The question I asked myself when I had to reduce from 6 cars to 2 is which of the cars would I find if I wanted them again.

X3 E70, would definitely find
X3 3.0d MSport: hens teeth, my wife still sulking whenever we talk about it. But could still find.
320i F30 MSport: easy to find.

Cars I kept:
325ci MTech II in Sapphire Black….in 4 years only saw 1. Met on Highway, windows down and he said, “I’m hanging into mine, hang on to yours too brother”.

330ci, probably could find, but not in the condition that mine is in. Asking price going up for mint ones.

530d Luxury line; never seen it in person since owning mine. With its extras (Comfort seats, Led lights, Drive assists, HK, etc. ) won’t be easy to find. New G models don’t have 3.0d.

2 became 3 based on the question I asked myself.

If things go well, One day, M5 and X6M to be added to the stable.

Yeah that as well, anything S54 powered 🤣
Z4M though is my must have car..... Had a Z4MR, then bought the Z4MC, have to get another Z4MC for sure, even before another E46 M3.

Cars I regret selling
Opel Monza 200i CD 16v-My first car, I cringe when I see the prices they fetching now. Sold t because I wanted something newer/cooler at the time. Bought an Astra 200ie Euro.

Audi A3 1.8T 8L- Didn’t give me a days issue, car was clean clean still don’t think I’ve seen one in the condition I kept it. Sold it as the wife wanted a 4 door.

Golf 7 GTi-Daily drove this car for 4 years, hard. Also not a days issue. Had to sell for a deposit on a house

Car I’m glad I kept-My current 07 W204 C200K, also never skipped a beat

Car I’m glad I got rid of - My E30 323i, although I miss it and wish that I can someday buy the right one, the timing wasn’t right as just after we went into lockdown.

The only car i ever wish i dint sell.... My E46 M3 Vert. Man i loved this car. My wife used to think i was crazy, i used to park it in the garage with the top down. Every time i walked passed the door i used to open and look at it parked there. She caught me a few times just standing there and staring at it. Out of all the cars i have owned it was this car that i could stand and just look at.
Sold it when it had 48k km on. I regret it everyday.

Car I regret selling: My first car, a Beetle. I was in varsity and needed money for books, sold it for 3k...

Biggest luck: 1969 VW Kombi. Paid 20k for it as an abandoned project. Still has the original interior in fair condition. Car literally just needed the engine to be assembled and it ran. But I did a lot more work on it. The extra lucky bit: Just after I bought it from a friend, his house caught fire with the Kombi parked just outside and the papers in his house. Luckily the fire missed the Kombi and the papers were under a pile of magazines and survived with burnt edges! Looked like a Grade 5 art project paper. Should have seen the look on the licensing ladies face when I presented this burnt artwork to them :ROFLMAO: Kombi is easily worth over 250K now, but I can never let her go

I often regret selling certain cars (My M3 is the most common regret)... But then I remind myself that selling them allowed me the opportunity to progress in other ways (cars and otherwise).

Never really kept anything so I can't comment there 😂

What a nice thread.

I have 3 major regrets on my part.

1. Had the opportunity to buy a Ford Sierra XR8 in 2009 for 47K, original as it came out of factory. My dad gave me a tongue lashing for wanting that car. He knew its capabilities. Needless to say , I never discussed my intentions on buying any car with him again, but did so after that fact. :)

2. Ford Sapphire 3.0 GLX Executive and VW Caravelle 2.6i. Has to sell these to clear debt in my business due to a bad debtor. these cars sold in 1 hour after advertising.

3. Ford Sapphire 5.0 V8, called for the car after it had just sold, if only I had not taken a call before making the call to the owner, it would have been in my garage. On a plus note, a week later I bought my E39 540i Manual, so there is a reason for everything.
