technical E92 battery registration JHB (Roodepoort)

Hi all. My E92 needs a new battery. Bmw wants 6G to replace, I said to hell with that. Getting one from HiQ at half the price, but it needs to be registered.
Can anyone assist? Bmw wants R700 just to connect an ob scanner and register😡

Hey bud, why dont you just get an OBD cable and download MHD? I think battery registration is free on MHD - would also be usefull in diagnosing your car in the future.........

Got mine from Naseer +27 82 804 1931 who is on this forum - just dont know his username and bought an OTG cable to use from my phone but I've got an N55 to use with MHD

I recently bought a new BMW battery from Battery Centre in Randburg for a 2008 E92 335i. When buying, I was assured by Battery Centre that registration of a replacement battery on the E92 335i was not necessary. Was I misinformed?

As far as I know batteries should be registered. As the battery gets older the ECU changes the voltages going to the battery. When you register, it tells the ecu a new battery has been fitted and it adjusts accordingly. Registering prolongs your battery life, but if you don't do it, it is not harmful to the car.
As I found out from Nathan, BMW batteries have a QR code that makes it easier to register, but as long as you don't change the type and capacity of the battery, they can still do it with a 3rd party battery.
