i have a feeling i will miss the performance aspect of the gti but then again i went from a golf 7 gti to a golf 5 gti and although i could notice the performance difference it didn't phase me.

had someone ask me about the 2SCOOPS forum name when i joined here as well and nope not him. In fact i have used this forum name on other forums well before he started his page lol
I haven't driven a F30 320d so I don't really know how much more fun it is to drive compared to the 320i, but what I do know is that I haven't driven my 320i in a few weeks as I choose to drive my Audi TT (155kw) every time I step out. The 320i is such a bore and brings out no emotion whatsoever.

The 320d will be a better car to live with - although they similar in performance the 350nm of torque at like 1500rpm is a game changer in drivability instead of revving your golf at 3-4000rpm every gear your now changing at 1500-2000rpm car feels faster at low revs

So your not tiring yourself out and the car is basically idling all the time...

And your basically halving your fuel consumption and diesel is at least 1Rand cheaper per liter than petrol. Also you halve your risk of theft.

I had the R32 and the attention that car got was mind boggling.... I had to sell that car or it would have been stolen for sure... same for the GTI...

Howsit guys.

So contemplating changing my car. I have a Golf 5 gti at the moment and looking at getting a F30 320d Msport.

Always wanted to own a BMW and even when selling my previous cars there were no good clean 320d's i could find. Guess it just wasn't meant to be at the time.

My brother purchased a E90 320d M Sport about 2 years ago and he loves it( drive, performance, fuel economy etc) and he even said i should have purchased a 320d over the the Golf 5 gti lol

The Golf 5 gti is a good car and has given me no issues. I think i'm just looking for a change.

So, would you guys say that a F30 320d Msport would be a good replacement? NB: This will be my first BMW that i would potentially be purchasing.
Yeah uhm it's a good move.... but honestly dont expect the same power output, but it's a very wonderful car

Well uhm... yup it's a good move but ☝️do not expect the same power output lol... I used to own a Ford focus st225 and moved to a 320d e90 Msport limited edition... buoy it feels like a downgrade

so i have test driven a F30 320d and i think possibly a 330d will be a better option for me lol or as some advised F30 320d with software and downpipe.

how does a F20 M135i compare to the F30 330d?

In which way? They're quite different in many ways

more so in terms of reliability and maintenance costs etc.

I think a 330d will be more reliable and cheaper on maintenance, not forgetting alot more economical than a M135i but owners can give you specifics. @AshG108 can chime in on the M135i. Not sure if there are any members that have owned both who can share their experiences.

Having owned a 320d M sport, and having driven a mates Golf 7 GTI (not sure what the difference between the 7 & the 5 are, but can’t imagine them being Vast but stand to be corrected)

The 320d is more refined IMO...and has oodles of torque and power at the ready. I however found the Gti more “spirited”...while my tractor wasn’t shameful when pushed hard. I felt like the gti enjoyed it more.
Also the ride and handling are very different obviously hatch vs sedan but in saying that my tractor stuck like glue.

I can say you’d be VERY happy in a 320d

As mentioned above, I would expect the 330d to be a bit more reliable and cheaper in terms of maintenance compared o the m135i.
330d will be lighter on fuel though.

Performance wise though, from what I have seen is that the m135i will be faster than the 330d and not sure that will change even if you do DP and software on the 330d.
"stage 1" 330d vs stock m135i, I think the 135i is still a bit quicker.

While the N55 engine is great, I have heard a lot more issues with the N55 engine compared to the N57 engine in the 330d.
Seen many 320d's with over 200k KM, a few with over 300k km and even some with over 400k km and with no major maintenance required and I'd imagine the N57 to be able to achieve the same if not better it! Typically speaking of course, there are always exceptions.

hey bro, shot...2SCOOPS contacted me about this comparison. Gave him real life experiences on both...I would love an F30 330d but currently, the M135i is a ton of fun. Consumption is not that bad but its not a diesel and it wont be close to that fuel however the power is extreme over the 330d...stock for stock. they different worlds...the N55 does cost more than diesel on maintenance...for sure!

but either car is brilliant....depending what it is neede for.

135i is awesome but has common failures that plague its reliability and can cost a lot to keep on the road... small fuel tank means 300kms to a tank can be a issue

If fuel cost does come to mind:
+1000km per tank vs sub >500km per tank

thanks, i did contact AshG108 and M135i already for real world ownership feedback and they have provided me with valuable input.

could you possibly share the issues as the ones i have come across( from my minimum research) are oil starvation and charge pipe issues

i can live with that as the car will possibly never be used for long distance trips and also only cover about 5000kms a year.
