F30 320D Modifications

Hi I am new to BMW Fanatics, I currently have an F30 320D. Recently I have done a few modifications to the car which includes fitment of a DP and software. This has significantly improved the car's performance. I am now looking at making further performance upgrades as this is addictive, I am going to complete the exhaust and I am considering fitting an intake - not sure? What are your thoughts around modifying this car and what options do I have?

Hi there, I have a 320d too, thinking about doing the DP but worried about smoke, does it smoke alot? Would you feel extra power gain on the DP alone?

@Boet RE your query around the down pipe alone. I do not believe you will feel a big power gain with it, but a noticeable throttle response improvement is very reasonable to expect. Compared a friends 30d with mine. Except same apart from dp and no dp. He was convinced the car felt more Alive. But just to be safe, go 76mm right through

What is the end goal here? Chasing numbers? Time? Or just want more power? As many have suggested, Xhp would be a good option if you haven't yet, and possibly intercooler and intake. Should get you some more powerrrrrr

Thanks guys, much appreciated, my main concern is the turbo and injectors, is the DP really good for the turbo, I'm planning to keep the car for a while and just want what's best for her, I've read on another forum that DP makes the turbo spool up to quick and thus shortens the lifespan of the turbo, is this true 🤷🏻‍♂️

No.
It will enable turbo to spool up a bit quicker because there is less back pressure from the Dpf being removed.
It is not going to damage your turbo or make it spool "too fast". It's just going to get to an RPM that you want it at, quicker.

Yeah thought as much, thanks bud, will do it sometime next month.
Shout if you need a contact. I highly recommend the guy who built my exhaust. Pop a dm if youd like details. Don't want to contravene forum rules. Pricing is good!

@Boet It's advisable to do an ecu remap together with the downpipe. The car becomes a lot more responsive and enjoyable to drive.

I have since my last post fitted a full exhaust and asked my tuner for more power so we've increased the boost. Really enjoying the power gains.

Hey Mohanniel, thanks, I did the downpipe today at Powerflow Randburg, and the car sounds great, I don't really feel any power gains, guess I must perhaps get used to it or maybe it's because the car is stock and they suggested I go 63mm because it's stock. My car didn't have a dpf only cat.

I did however feel that the turbo spools up faster, it's still new so I'll get used to it, it doesn't sound like a diesel anymore lol.

They kept my old cat and said they'll charge me more if I had to take it, wasn't too happy about that.

Makes sense on the size. Turbo outlet is 63, so same as that.

You should feel a bit of a difference, and your comment on spool up being quicker is spot on.

How blocked up is the old cat? Out of interest?

They were clever with their tactics. The metals in the cats are worth a bit, so they will send it off and they will be able to pocket some money for that :)

The cat didn't seem to be blocked at all, Sanjeev showed me the cat and said it's blocked but didn't seem that way to me, but hey who am I to say it's not blocked lol

Yes he told me they recycle it and get some money back, they would have charged me 4500 but because they kept the old one he charged me 2800.

Hmm, interesting... When I got my E90 320d I stopped by Powerflow Randburg as I was in the area to get an idea on what they'd charge me to do a dp, the guy wanted to charge me R7500.

Interesting that you got it for quite a bit less, a far more reasonable price as far as I am concerned. I ended up deciding against the dp as I knew I wasn't going to keep the E90 for too long (it's sold now).

Definitely look at doing some software! Perhaps even consider xhp gearbox software for quicker shifts.

Wow! I suppose you pay for the brand to a certain extent, but that does seem like a lot.

They do have a reputation that they have built up so I suppose maybe that affects it?

Irrespective, the guys that did my exhaust will build a full exhaust, 76mm ss, for (considerably) less than you are saying you were quoted for a dp only.

Good judgement call not to go for it...

As long as you happy with the end product man.

Think you did the right thing by getting it done!

Pity you couldnt recycle it yourself. Could've saved even more. I know somewhere that you could've done that :)
