ZF will check the transmission adaption values and oil quality prior to doing the service, if the adaption values are found to be out of spec and the oil quality is not satisfactory we will advise the customer not to do an oil change

End Quote

What does the bold underlined part mean?? I would have thought that if the oil was out of spec thats a good reason to change it??

good day Sir. the adaption is how much wear is on the clutch packs in the transmission. we have a look at the oil as well, if it is burnt or has metal particles we will advise against the oil change

Thanks Nico. My F25 X3 20d hass 191k km on the clock but has done little to no towing (only a bike trailer on rare occasions) and 99% of those km's as you can imagine have accrued on the open highway rather than "stop / start" traffic.

On the basis of the above history, would it be fair to presume that there shouldnt be heavy wear on the clutch packs?

Then, just for understanding, why would changing oil if there is particles / burnt oil be a bad thing?

Thanks for your special offer as well. Greatly appreciated.

Sir it is normally town driving that gives wear and heavy towing. reason I say town driving is that you will shift 123, 321 all the time in town. Where on open road it will be in top gear most of the time. if the oil is burnt that means the clutches are already slipping. if it has particles in that means some of the clutches are worn down to the metal. no amount of new oil will fix this. Best thing to do is let us have a look.

Is the oil swop same day service if booked in?

Nico can correct if I am wrong, but on my e60 it took around 2hrs including a tour of the shop.

O wow that is quick and a tour sounds awesome! Thanks for the info..

How does BMW feel about motorplan cars coming for preventative measures?

Not sure they would complain about something they can't confirm.

Hats off to Hardus at ZF. I arranged for 7am this morning. Even though my drive was all the way from Centurion, meaning it would have been at full operating temps, I was driving out at a shade after 9:45am.

The information one can learn from someone like Hardus is something else. I find very few people that are willing to share the information they have and be as easy going as he is.

I have chatted to Nico, Hardus and Ricardo this morning. Awesome guys and my booking is in Durbs next week Tuesday with Ricardo.

I'm hoping at 192k km all the specs are good and that the oil can be changed and I have added a diff oil change and the transfer case oil. So all things equal by this time next week the X3 will be running on new transmission fluids all round:=)::=):

The guys said the diff oil must be bought from BMW but they will do the transfer case. I just figured it made sense to do it all one go:=):
