Z4M with Asthma!!

Guys,

I have had an issue with my Z4M since the day I got her at the beginning of the year. She has asthma :) :(

Basically at low revs in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear if you accelerate she stutters a bit and then pulls like she should.

I cant tell you how many times I have stalled her. To counteract this I basically rev her to about 4k and drop the clutch, which in itself is fun, but maybe not when Granny is in the car with me.

It makes driving in traffic a nightmare.

Auto Atlantic (who I am very soon going to stop using, and throw in the same shit BIN as SMG) have told me they cant find an issue and that its normal. I didnt have time to fight as I had a meeting to go to, I drive her so infrequently that I have kind of left the issue.

But now its time to sort.

Any suggestions, my brain suggest Vanos or Vanos seals (not that BMW replace these)

Any help appreciated as per usual!!

FYI she is on M/Plan!

VANOS? Should explain low down torque issues

Sorry just checked you also think VANOS. If BMW can't find anything wrong with their highly sophisticated equipment then I would go with VANOS as they never work on them. Could even be a air leak. Check the intake pipes as well.

Sometimes it is something simple like just changing the spark plugs.Try it if it does not work at least you have a spare set going forwards.I have found that certain additives do have an adverse effect on spark plugs and then they just get "weak".

I don't know what is wrong with your car, Ant. Best you sell her to me to avoid expensive repair bills.

You have my number. :biglol:

Sounds like TPS sensors. google and you will find a couple instances. Think the test (while stationary) is to rev to 2k and release the pedal. it should settle straight to about 1k. Mine used to drop to 0.5k then go back up to 1k.

I’m going through the same drama ATM( 07 Z4MR 93k km). mine eventually coughed out an error once the motorplan was out. I’ve replaced the TPS sensor (under the airbox) but am still not happy with the outcome. Will be replacing the second soon, even though BMW supposedly replaced this at about 75k km.

BTW, I had no luck getting this sorted under motorplan. They reset the throttle adaptation which helps for a few weeks and then the problem comes back.

Thanks for all your help Gents.

Will book her in to Auto Helderberg when I get back from Europe! Tired of "production line" dealers!

What I understand from this is that your car hesitates when accelerating, but for only a brief moment. Like a hiccup of sorts?

My car did this at around 3000-3500rpm and again at mid 5000rpm. It was Vanos solenoid.

The error code I received was a 095 - inlet cam advance, but the error was intermittent. It was not always present.

PS. 4000'th post. woohoo.

I do not know if you can insist however given that it is under motorplan get them to change the complete vanos unit inclusive of valve body and solenoid.

Roughly R60000

I am not sure how they will line up your cams though as few dealers have the cam alignment bridge still.
