Z4M Motorplan Ending

Hi Guys

My car has two months left for its motorplan to expire. I have had trouble free motoring except for an airbag light that kept coming on which BMW fixed by replacing the control unit.

I had the thought of trading the car in for E92 M but feel that the Z4M is rather unique and a true drivers car with that angry S54 and lively tail end :praise:

What should I have done to the car under these last two months while still on motorplan and must the car still go to bmw for its next service?

take the car to the AA and have it completely checked out, then send it to bmw to get everything fixed while still under motorplan :)

hmmmm an AA test, good suggestion but from experience I have noticed that the AA guys do not see everything. They tend to miss a few things, which branch would you recommend?

There are different levels of tests which the AA/Dekra Performs.
In my honest opinion, go for the most expensive one, because regardless of what faults they find, atleast you have your motorpan that will cover those maintenace items and which can be offset from the cost of the test itself.

I wouldnt recommend the branch in Randburg, i found them to be a bit sloppy when i took a car i was interested in purchasing there

Then you should be fine, get the last service in as well. IMO I'd keep the car. There are less than 2000 made in the WORLD so it's a pretty scarce car to start of with. The V8 M3 is special and so is this car. You know what you have with this one.

It's pretty close to the M3 in terms of performance as well.

Hi Mike

I am in Fourways. Can your mate perhaps remove my CDV as well?

I think you may change your mind if anything major breaks. Will cost way more than 16K. If you were thinking of modifying your car, then I would say don't extend it. Here is a sum for you. See if its relevant to your situation:

High performance cars + no warranty/motorplan + average/limited budget = disaster waiting to happen.

Hey bud

Mine ran out of motorplan about a year ago now. I got a quote to extend but it was utterly insane (My mileage needed extending as well as the time, if I recall correctly it was over R30k) - I told them what to do with their quote and haven't looked back since.

Some guys have issues with their cars and some dont, so far I have been lucky that the only work done on it in and out of MP has been maintenance type stuff.

I agree with the other guys though about squeezing as much out of the last 2 months of the MP as you can, get anal and make sure you are 100% happy with the car before it runs out. For mine I got them to replace the clutch on 99,500 km

 dont think he will do that as he is the workshop manager and it will go against his discipline, but he will certainly go over the car with a very fine tooth comb, and has a very good idea what need replacing soon, he knows what to push on the Motorplan side - legit.

@Sirhan Mine is still on MP but probably not for much longer either. Going to milk the last month on motorplan, if I can just get some pads and discs I'll be stoked.

I have done quite a bit of tinkering myself as I don't really trust anyone else on my cars, the CDV is a super quick job. If you come around my place one day I'll do it for you, but preferably only after your mplan is done.

If you're lucky enough to get a new clutch under mplan then they might spot the valve missing and not do it.

Hi Andy

Thanks, i think i will take you up on that offer.

My clutch, brake pads and disks were changed late 2011 and I dont drive my baby hard so I feel that I am ready for the no motorplan age.

Extending the motorplan will make no sense because my aim is to mod and keep the car forever. :praise:

Mike

PM me the details please ... any mods to your car and do you still have your motorplan?

Hi Guys,
Sorry to try restart a dead post, but thought there was no need to create a new one. The motor plan on my Z4M will be expiring at the end of the year and just wanted more advice of where to go for an additional check. Wanted to know if the advice of going to the AA is still the best or if there is anyone else who could give it a once over.

I am in the johannesburg and dont mind taking it to someone reputable.

I also wanted to know how to motivate for the cluth and brake pads to be replaced.

Thanks,

Rather extend your Motor Plan for 2 more years, which can be done...

Phone BMW Motor Plan in cape town and get a quote, 2 more years of hassle free motoring.

Expect the quote to be high but try and negotiate. It is worth it if something big goes....

Oh ya! BTW if your steering pump or Diff goes, which usually does after MPlan be prepared to cough up...
