The roof motor might be toast. The electrical motor sits in a vulnerable position and if kept outside, might corrode due to water ingress. It is a common problem with Z4's in countries with wet climates like the UK. Google for the topic.

Prepare for a hefty bill to replace that motor. :sorry:

On second thought, are you sure you did not accidently pull the roof's quick-release cord in the boot?

AFAIK the M as well as all the facelifted models, have a sealed motor unit(unlike the initial E85s). The motor still might have failed though.

Mine gets stuck once in a while. The clips release, but the roof doesnt fold away. With a little push, the motor finds the strength and works fine. The problem is intermittent though.

Good luck though.

Thanks for the respons. The car is a '06 if that helps in any way. And the boot open lights not on wish it was that though ! About the clip in front once I press the button to let the roof down every things goes great !!the light at the button shows the roof is dettached and then ...
:flyfun:
Every thing just stops ??
I've read on the internet that there's a rely or sensor in the boot that tells the car that te roof can't go down that sometimes go on these later models any clues on that ???
Thanks again.

Hi, had something similar.
Check the plastic shelf at the back that holds the folded roof. It could have come undone/loose. Make sure its all in place and clipped in properly. Any restriction that is picked up will prevent the roof from folding.

If the boot shelf is not in place, the front clips on the windscreen won't even unclip and the motor won't run.

Have you verified that the roof emergency release cable in the boot has not been pulled by accident (the cable with the red handle at the back of the parcel shelf)?
