okay will look at cooling system and suspension.
was in cape town last night, saw a black coupe, looked good.

still hoping can meet up with someone to check their z4 out....:fencelook:

Why not go check out a dealers Z4 then while you wait for someone to offer :smilebounce:

LOLS, i saw a z4m in paarl, im checking. hopefully can see this weekend and will go check.

with costings from you guys, seems like its not a crazy expensive car, something quite feasible, save, budget, maintain and then preventative stuff. easy.

Also, i plan to daily the car, this shouldnt be an issue on it?

If you going the M route save about 40k for bearings.

M's are not cheap to maintain... in my 1.5years of owning mine, i've spent over 80K on Maintenance so Stay far away from them unless you like Mr TPB88 and you buy one where the engine was just recently changed for a new one...

The 3.0 is not as costly to maintain and you should have a great experience owning one if its been looked after-ed and not been abused or neglected...

Good luck man, hope you come right quickly with a really nice example..... but if you dont... Please be patient and wait for the right 3.0L to come along ... Dont rush and settle for a 2.0 or 2.5...

not going Z4M, i'd like to not sell my kidneys.

my distance to work is very shot, so short that i should in fact walk.
i do around 4kms, to gym and 4 back. so like 10 a day, max 15km. short.

+1 only reason why I got the 3.0
I couldn't find myself having to spend 30-40k on bearings.
brakes, general maintenance and insurance on the M is also more costly.
but that being said ,the M will always be more! more superior, more thrilling, more desirable.

I remember reading this thread when I was looking

Ja, I was lucky in that sense, does mean the original-ness of the car is lost, so mine is doubtless less of a collectors item than a proper M with matching engine numbers.

Insurance isn't too bad, but your car will end up insured at below it's actual value - warning on this.

M parts are substantially more, so I think in your budget stick to the 3.0si, as stated above. Don't compromise, if you want the coupe, wait and wait and wait. The right one with the spec you want will come.

I would narrow down the colours you want to a selection of 3 or 4 - that's one area you might need to compromise on! (as I said, in a dream world my car would be white but I can hardly complain)

only someone who buys it to store it in a garage (and not really enjoy it) will think that way hoping to cash in big when they sell... to me, nothing wrong with it.... its better off with a new motor.... as long as you having fun in that bad girl ....

Only read this now - I have a Z4 (E89 though) that you can check out.
I also bought a Carly adapter - Can help scan the car and give you some peace of mind before you buy it.
(Recently scanned a 323i for a friend, which turned out had the mileage adjusted by nearly 70k km!)

Trade and retail will be well below what guys are asking - I'd be shocked if 07 trade is over 120k to be honest, guys who have cars in decent nick know they can ask for a chunk.

Where in CPT are you located? I'm free-ish this weekend and if you make your way to town I can meet you and show you my ride? It's an M but the spec is super low on my car, so the interior would be identical to most 3.0Si cars. (for reference I stay in Gardens).

Haha

Had a nice chat about the cars too. The right ones are out there, just keep your eyes peeled and be patient, the market for these is pretty thin. :)

Hey guys

How nice to see you guys have a chat about the (non-M) E86 Z4 hardtop. Did you know that BMW produced less than 13 000 3.0Si Coupes between 2006 and 2008?

Since I joined this forum a few years ago (at the time I had a longing for an E28, some days I still do) I bought myself a Midnight Blue 2008 example (reg 08, it was manufactured in late 2007), with a manual box and Individual spec (satin trim, Indiv wheels, piano black dash with champagne leather). Pay no attention to the GP plates on the car pictured below, I now run the car in Cape Town and live in Panorama.

Since I've bought the car it has run flawlessly (it just completed 78 000km), I did have some cosmetic work done and replaced the front bushes. It probably needs a bit more suspension work (she thuds a bit over bumps), but I blame the firm ride largely on the run flats. Although I could have bought a 335i instead I wanted that sweet naturally aspirated throttle response, the sound and of course, the sleek look.

Please feel free to drop me a line if you'd like to have a chat; I have had the car for just under a year so I am not a product expert, but happy to share experiences.

Kind regards

Mike

Great example of the car! Love the colour and interior looks near mint!

Mind if I ask what you paid for it, when you bought it, and it's mileage at the time?

Regards

Sure, I don't think it needs to be a secret! I paid a little bit more for than I wanted, but was keen on its Individual spec and low kms (72 000 km). That was a year ago. R185k.

The individual spec really makes the interior pop with the piano black. You certainly paid a premium, but you have a very clean looking car - maybe consider the ZHP gearknob - that's the only thing worth your changing that I can see! :)
