Once again greetings all...

So this is me trying to educate myself on the do's and don'ts of what is to follow for my cab.

Obviously looking to do some exterior work - wheels, little suspension drop, boot spoiler (little one), etc, any advice regarding rim choice and suspension mods appreciated! Looking for an OEM+ look....nothing crazy....

Motor - exhaust, dp, charge pipe, FMIC, and software....again....help needed in spades!

But first and foremost, I wanna have the car looked at, and any stupid errors cleared... Who, when, how, where can this all happen? Not very well versed in the BMW side of things but wanna run a full diagnostic check if possible without ruining the mod account.

Also....how do I connect my android phone....I mean who uses CD's anymore....sh!t! I'd love to have an android unit installed with backup camera and able to stream Google play or similar maybe even play music videos...had that kind of system installed in my Audi and it rocked but clueless here on the Beemer.... literally any help is more than I got at the moment...I don't even know the name of my version of idrive...CIC or CCC or professional or ???

Let me know gents....TIA

Peace

Fuzz

Good day bud. Rennzport Hq is based in CT. We will be able to run a diagnostics on the car to check for errors and advise on your build going forward. We've also just landed some charge pipes that are Z4 specific. Pop us an email to [email protected] and we can setup an appointment through there. [THUMBS UP SIGN]

Good Afternoon Lads

So some updates to the car. Its been a long while since last logging on. Lots of work and some tough times with the car unfortunately....

1. The boot soft close actuator failed a few months back....this obviously has lots of reprocussions. Namely the boot not closing:eek:mgwaiting:, the roof not working - really awkward when the roof was down and it cant go back up.... Not to mention that it was throwing all sorts of errors on the dash!

- solution -

Well this was an intermittent issue...as it seems my Z4 likes to have - nothing ever works all the time or is not working all the time - it surprise fails you, when she feels like it!
Needless to say, I took the car to the stealers and they "evaluated the car" and 2 days later I got a quote from them saying the WHOLE boot mechanism needs replacing coz its well buggered....R15k odd later!!! So I decided I'm going to investigate and low and behold upon opening the dam thing up and removing everything on the underside of the boot lid found 1 green wire from the wiring harness to the actuator motor itself that had snapped off - A common issue on the E89 according some dude on youtube who has a video with the same problem - repairing this wire resolved the whole issue and saved me R15k.... annoying BMW didn't even open the the boot mechanism to have a look!!!!

2. PARKING BRAKE ISSUE:rage::rage::rage::rage::rage:

This one is driving me nuts! Around about the same time that the boot failed, the parking brake warning light went on on the dash - orange - and the brake started malfuctioning and yes you guessed it - INTERMITTENTLY! So the light is always on, but most days it works, when it doesnt the hand brake button effectively does nothing...and the brake will not engage. This is less of a problem, what is a HUGE problem is when it stops working after I've engaged the brake! As exibited today, my car is currently baking at a local shopping mall in Cape Town as I cannot disengage the brake, the left rear actuator is locked on and when trying to drive the rear just squats down and the car cannot move! I've pressed the button 500 times, held it down, disconnected the battery, waited 2 hours, the works....thats its apparent new home forever!
In the past few months I took it BMW and they said I need a new rear EMF actuator at R10k! I got a working 2nd hand part and changed them out, no change.... I looked at the cables going to the actuators and the right rear cable was completely frayed! This wire appears to rub on the shock and simply wore them through - this is what I expect started the problem, but repairing the wiring has NOT solved the issue! I've read online that the EMF control module needs to be reprogrammed and new software installed - but BMW is unable to do this for me and tell me that they have never heard of such a solution and recommended a replacement of the module at R20k!
*I'm sure you all can see how this answer of just replacing everything is driving me up the wall*

- solution -

NONE! and now the Z4 is in a shopping mall parking lot - unable to move and I couldnt be bothered to stand there in the heat to think about it further! #uber

3. Cruise control not working

This is directly related to the parking brake / EMF issue - I think

4. Seat bolsters dont hold air

Havent even looked who can help me with this.

5. Intermittent "Critical Engine Failure" - followed by limp mode''

Switching the car on and off clears the issue and all is good for like 3000kms and then happens again. ?VANOS ?solenoids ?big internal issue ?ANOTHER electrical gremlin

- solution -

Want to get the cars intake cleaned and decarboned, run the thing on a dyno and check engine diagnostics - Goch&Cooper seem to be good okes and said they happy to have a look and run some tests.

Need to get this sorted before I look to add power, or maybe she goes KABLAMO!

On the plus side - LOL - I unfortunately am inlove with this thing....despite the above issues, the impracticality of this as a daily, and the fact that my wife will divorce me if this thing breaks down again.
I've done 25k since I last posted and when she goes she goes!
She has received some new takkies - M433's to be exact and running 19" now with staggered 9 and 8.5J rear to front - see pic!
Some little vinyl work done as well.

Moral of the story is I need a bit of help, advice, possibly a tow... If anyone knows how to help a brother out, feel free to do so!

PS: Long post - hope it wasn't too boring!

Sh*t! Good luck in getting it sorted!

Seems like you have also come to realise that DIY and some input from the guys on here is often a better bet than going to some of the dealers. They honestly don't always seem to care or know what they are doing!

Sorry I can't be of much help, but good luck!

@Ddooon, yeah bud. I let the car sit there for a while and think about what its done....returned like 3 hours later sat in it, pushed the button and drove off like nothing ever happened.....

A bit rediculous if I'm honest!
