Hi Guys

As per my previous thread, I need to replace the rear shocks on my car , its a 2002 E46 318i Auto. Turns out they did not have 70% life in them , and to me they looked more or less shot.

I have already purchased the shocks, Bilstine B4 , The problem is , I have ordered the new shock mounts as well as the paper gaskets, sponge sort of extra bump stop thing at the top of the mount (all original bmw from a BMW Dealer), But these parts will only come in , in the new year , January sometime, Those sponge sort of things and the gaskets ( i was told were never ordered before) So they have to get them for me from Germany)

My question is , can I replace the shocks and leave the other pieces in there , and replace those pieces when they come in?

and

If i replace just the rear shocks while I wait for the front ones and all the new mounts , will I have any handling issues or problems?

Im still waiting for the front bilstine shocks to come in as well (also in the new year)

My current mounts at the back don't seem to be damaged at all , The foamy spongy yellow things are still there but do seem a little brittle (to me).

At the moment I haven't felt any issues with the rear end , but they are badly worn out, When its pushed in it takes a long time for the shock to slide back into its original position.
Im doing this back shock job myself and its pretty easy to do so there's no labor cost involved for me if I had to remove the shock again to fit on the new mounts ,gaskets etc.

Thanks guys.

the rears are easy to get out if it were my car I would probably fit the dampers now then fit the new parts when they get here

Thanks Moranor!

Im going to do just that , Looking at those Bilstine B4s sitting on the floor of my room carpet makes me more and more impatient :) Considering my original Saches shocks at the back are worn.(though I surprisingly don't feel or hear anything)
