So I'm on my way home been driving the car normal rather slow due to traffic... Road opens and accelerate all of a sudden car just loses power and starts jerking.. The yellow engine light comes up.. Car is idling funny jerking no power etc... Manage to get home still the same story.. Can anyone tell me what the problem could be

I than on the car after a while,no warning light no jerking sounds normal..
I have contacted BMW they will collect the car on Monday..should I have them check it out... Even though everything seems normal now :nonono:

Yes. They must check it out. A limp mode code would have been thrown. So hopefully they can find the fault code and issue that caused the limp.

Tell us more about the car. Year model?

General consensus, after hearing your explanation on what the car is doing, states that it would normally be one the following errors...

1. Its a coil failure.

2. Its a dead spark plug.

3. Its a valve failure, as what happened to my M3. (VERY RARE)

But happening on a 2012 car, with such low mileage??? Not sure.

Its hard to say, because the x35 is so temeramental. The fact that it started up fine afterwards is a good sign but i will have it checked out anyway. Also get a code reader, it helps to read the car yourself so that you can quickly see what fault code accompanied the limp mode.

It may have just been too hot...and the car does not like being hot & bothered. :=):

Thanks twinz, strange thing I got the ppk which has bigger fan cooling pipes etc.
Where do I get the code reader from?

Started the car up this morning everything seems fine like nothing happened but I will take it in on Monday have it checked up

It was not my intention to sell anything...:=):

But since you ask:

1. The Bms can tool with OBD cable. You can read/delete codes. Display boost, timing, IAT, show shift light and no laptop reguired. Very convenient tool. Rennzport has this in stock.

2. Bavarian Tech tool. This maybe too much for your purposes but great for heavily modded cars for owners that want to do more than code clearing. Laptop required to be used with tool. Rennzport has the BT in stock as well.

Thanks... Sounds interesting. Bms can tool will work especially with jb4

The Bms tool does not work with Jb4 because the jb4 has it built in. The can tool is for stock cars and those running a software tune.

My car did something similar, driving slowly in traffic, cold morning so no over heating (just on normal temp)

Next thing, road opens and I push the car hard through 1,2,3,4 and next moment same thing (jerking, no power). I did not have any lights come on.

Limped to Menlyn Auto, switch off and on again, perfect, no problem and no logged faults, I had a slight misfire at cold idling.

They replaced injectors and no more misfire and no more limp mode.

Not really to write home about. It will flow 25% better than stock and makes a great sound.

Its only when the exhaust includes a decat and a tune that you will get power benefits. But rear boxes on their own only make lovely noises and the illussion of power

So my car engine light came up again, car went into limp mode again :argh: dropped the car off yesterday at bmw , they have noticed the car has been misfiring and problem also could be the computer box. But they have to wait for bmw SA technician. Anybody have an idea what all this could mean? :fencelook:
