yellow engine light E90 335I 2011

Hi guys,

I wonder if you can shed some light here. This weekend I was cruising with the car and then decide to give it some stick. Immediately the yellow light came on and stayed like that for about 5 minutes. The car was down on power and I took it to Auto Alpina Boksburg. The techie said that I shouldn't worry about it unless the light stayed on. Is this correct or should I get it checked out? My car does have a BMW ppk. What could have cause this?

Regards

I had the same problem with my previous E92 335i and still having the same issue with my current E93 335i.

Problem is BMW never finds a fault code. However, I always take a picture with my phone. The problem could be coils, injectors, plugs, vanos solenoids, HPFP based on my past services with BMW.

Just keep record of when it happens again, take a picture and show your BMW technician.

I call it the light of funnies , very common on the 335i. Normally related to something hardware. It can even be a silly mis-read on the wheel sensor and it will throw this light.

Lets just say I know a few drivers that got this light whilst driving on the highway....clutch in, switch off car , start car , engage gear and carry on and all done whilst cruising at 120km/h

Hi guys,

My car was booked in at BMW this morning for a checkup. Funny enough I was a few hundred meters away from them and the light came on when I gave it stick. They picked up an error code from the key and I will let you know what the problem was when I pick up the car this afternoon.

I got that a lot on my 2007 335i sedan, only once though just after filling up on my 2010 335i coupe.

Sometimes it comes with limp mode, othertimes power seems fine. if you have a 335i then you are going to see that light quite often im afraid.

Just got a call from the consultant saying that they will have to keep the car overnight to diagnose the problem:cry:

So I got a call from the consultant saying that the battery was low on power and that cause the engine light to come on and that also cut power to the engine. I know that the battery was a problem because I had to boost the car the other day. Could this be the reason?

Motorplan covers battery replacement if the battery problem does persist

Yes I know but I wonder if the Battery could be the reason for the light coming on and the lack of power??

It actually doesnt bother me anymore except for the one time I was overtaking a Merc and my engine went on limp mode :argh:

Absolutely, an underpowered battery could cause a CEL or a full limp. Get them to replace the battery

LOL, a little built in "drama" light - senses when things are too calm!!

Have also read a number of times on E90Post of people with 335i's taking an off-ramp and getting CEL or full limp after WOT - stopping after the off-ramp to switch off for a few minutes, then all fine on restart...
