The above smileys depict my exact reaction yesterday when a certain, kind hearted BMWFanatic handed me the keys to his few day old F80 M3. Firstly, thank you Babyboss for allowing me to drive your car. Your humbleness is greatly appreciated. Its not often someone you hardly know hands you the keys to his 1mil+ vehicle, heck anything for that matter.
Anyways, i had been nagging AK for some time to come visit him, he had been out of town etc and by coincidence he was available yesterday. Seeing that he lives down the road from the Dyno Venue, i had asked him to pop by.
Just as the last car was loaded onto the dyno, Yas Marina Blue drove in. There wasnt much of crowd, but everyone that was their was in WOW mode. The car was quickly surrounded by fanatics, Divio was in awe and started snapping away. The car is beautiful. I had seen a fellow fanatics in DBN, but at night. To be honest, i was not ecstatic about the colour until seeing it yesterday in sunlight. Although, still a little less glossy for me (i feel its a flat colour). Its blue, but those little gold sparkles just make it a whole lot special. To me, it was as if i was looking through the water of a clear blue ocean with the sand beneath sparkling into the sunlight.
The lines of the F80 M3 are aggressive, especially the front bumper. The huge air ducts on either side, that signature bulge on the bonnet and the carbon fibre roof. Not forgetting the M designed side mirrors. All nothing short of aggressive beauty. The stance is great on this car, although it could do with a bigger wheel. The wider fenders give it a sexy figure.
And then, Yas Arbee was handed the keys to Yas Marina!
I drove with AK in the passenger seat. Doc and Bilal jumped into the back. Started up and felt a little dissapointed, i expected a rumble or a bark. This was just, well, yeah its on!
DCT gearbox, engaged Reverse and turned the car. I must say, i am not use to the DCT gearbox at all but i got the hang of it quick. Especially as i needed to do a 5 point turn to get out of the parking lot.
As i drove out, Bernard335 was leaving so Divio snapped a couple a pics, i am sure he will post them up soon. I know he has one of me smiling from ear to ear.
Anyways, drove out of the complex and onto John Voster. Now, i must warn you, i dont have the money to replace this car so i drove it with respect. Also, being a few days old, with 150km on clock i didnt want to really man handle someone else's pride and joy.
Was in 2nd gear, pulled the car to 5000rpm, that instant feel of turbo power pushing you into your seat and then click to 3rd and she pops and revs more into the spot again. Click into and she just climbs up the speed levels. Literally, breathless!!!
From the dig, in 1. All necessary aids in check and switched ON. Feather the throttle and TC bites, car bogs and i change to second. I was feathering and TC was kicking in.
raise:
Here is where my perception of where the exhaust changed completely. It barks, screams and shouts music to an enthusiasts ears. Even Doc said the sound and ease of driving makes him want to sell his F10 M5 for one of these. Literally, music to my ears. Windows were all up btw!
Through the gears, even at low speed in high gear she just picks up speed with ease. All this in comfort mode!!!
This particular one has and extra suspension pack (AK can confirm), didnt really get a chance to take it on bends but i did manage to make a U-Turn and power up as i got out of the turn, the car was well planted, i felt in control. Although it was not fast, the exit of the u-turn was executed with some increase in pressure from the right leg. All was good, she did exactly what i wanted her to, get out of their quick and easy.
I fell in love on the spot, one day, God Willing, i will own one!
The interior, Silverstone colour leather. Never seen it before but it really does compliment exterior colour well, i suppose its different as well. Those seats are dam comfy, when you jump in it grabs you and holds you tight. Probably a safety feature cos you need to be held tight in here. That feeling of safe and secure immediately wrapped around me.
Maybe Bilal and Doc can provide some info on the leg room and comfort from the back seat?
Again, a huge thanks to AK. You are a real gem of a person. Appreciate it.
Divio has a couple pics. Im sure he will share them.
Still Smiling!!!
