Well done to Vinay under INTENSE heat today at ODI running 12.5 twice. The only power mods on the car today were chip & downpipes (which made 4 or 5 peak hp). Average exit was 185, with a best of 187 I believe (pending official results). He also ran 235 on the km. No drag tyres or anything, stock exhaust, stock intake, stock cooler, stock diff, etc. Awesome time considering he had no traction & was going sideways off the line. I reckon we will put some Mickeys on that puppy & put in some meth, raise the octane & make an assault on the low 12's.

I think this proves what our tuning can do. The cars that ran at the last event were everyday tunes with 0.9 bar boost. Those customers came to ODI as they drive on the street, with their runflats, pump fuel, no cooling, no changing of pressures, etc.

The only difference with this car, is because of the downpipes we can be a bit more aggressive with the ignition advance & boost. So it probably peaks around 1.05 bar with a less pronounces taper up top. With the fuelling & advance to accomodate that boost. When we map for the meth, we can crank it a bit more, then I expect it will really sing on the 1/4.

Congrats on the awesome time..!

Excuse the ignorance....but what effect does extra power like that have to the Life of the engine and wear and tear ?

Nice going Sherwin. I am happy cars are starting to come close. Its quite lonely at the top. I like ODI due to the 1km sprints as it takes a lot of the traction and driver skill required on the quarter miles out of the equation. Pity I could not make it to make the GTR's feel small.

Thought the same thing to myself actually.

 Congrats.

Question: how will the Meth work. will it be added to the petrol in the tank or will you run a stand-alone tank .

I rate absolutely nothing. Shiv, Terry, & the rest of the 11 sec crew overseas are still on their original engines & turbos with big mileage. So yeah, there's no effect.

Yeah sweet, Vinay had no traction today due to bad tyres & I think it was only his 2nd time at the drags with this car. So yeah traction & driver skill will improve next time out for him. You would have cleaned out the modded GTR's today. Would have been a sight to see.

Well done guys, its awesome seeing the capability of these cars with so little mods. Keep up the good work :thumb: was this done on a manual or auto.

I don't agree... I'll state categorically, I have done essentially no work on cars and haven't been in the tuning industry for any amount of time.

However, I do know the following...

Assuming that the power increase leads to an increase in torque, wear and tear will definitely increase. Time to failure will decrease. Fatigue is based on load and number of cycles. If the load is increased, the number of cycles to failure is decreased - meaning a sooner failure.

I'm not saying stock standard cars only running software are timebombs. I'm saying that compared to a stock standard car, a modded car will fail sooner.

How much sooner is difficult to say, but it is a function of load.

Ok I may have been a bit over-zealous when I said no effect. There may well be some. But thus far it has proven to be negligible. Standard cars are failing sooner than modded ones, what with all the recalls about.

Certain mods actually result in LESS stress to the components. Downpipes for instance. The exhaust gasses exit the turbo, immediately hit a 90 deg bend down & BAM, the catts are right there. 30cm from the turbo exit. Ther turbo's have to force the air through this restriction. When you remove the catts the turbos spin much free-er with the lower backpressure. So its good for the turbo's. Less timing pull & lower EGT's so it's good for the engine.

Similarly, intakes can also help lower the duty cycle on the wastegates for a given boost. A better cooler has a lower pressure drop across it's core. So yeah, boosting a bit higher might mean a bit more in-cylinder pressure, but it can be offset by hardware.

Thanks guys, the car goes really well, to be honest I was hoping for a 12.9/12.8 and I would have been chuffed. I am sure we will go better next time as I was not really having the perfect launch as it is bit tricky, still getting used to the lights and stuff. Anyway big up to the N54 tuning master Sherwin and everybody else that was cheering me on.
