X6 power cut

Good evening. I recently bought a 2008 3.5d X6. It has 85 000km on and was upgraded with an Ecu power upgrade. Now the problem:
If you drive it hard(full pull off) it cuts power at about 180km/h.  This can cause some serious issues when overtaking at high speed.
Can somebody help? If you drive normal, you can go over 200, only if you gun it, it cuts power.
Thanks
Jacques

Hi,

Is the gearbox not limiting torque maybe?

Any upgrades done to the gearbox TCU to allow for the ramped up engine power?

Thanks for the comment. It is possible, the gearbox have not been upgraded. Why would it be OK again immediately when you restart it?

1. Flash stock file
2. Make sure car is mechanically sound with stock file
3. Load new SW from reputable company if needed.

Thanks. My Ecu was done by RK Motion, so I believe he is reputable. I will check with Keithan if he have the original file.

RK motion must sort this out - otherwise why bother using a tuner if you're going to be diagnosing basic problems that should have been obvious if it was dynoed at WOT?

Very few tuners actually tune cars on the dyno these days...

They could not dyno it, they only have a 2 wheel dyno. Don't think it is their fault though. Hopefully it is a boost leak, it is an old car.

If indeed an RK file, I am sure it can be sorted.

If there are other factors at play, ie boost leaks. Get that sorted first. You can't narrow down the true cause with too many variables.

Have you had the car scanned for errors?

When you say cuts power, does it go into Limp mode?

Is the dpf still in place?

As others have mentioned get the car checked throughly for boost leaks, if there was a weak spot previously then tuning the car will definitely bring out that weak spot

No power figure given to the client? Not tested at WOT on the road even if road tuning? Or do very few tuners actually tune cars on the road either these days?

Road tests are normally performed in 3rd gear from around 2k rpm to redline and logged... A road test to 180kph doesn't seem like a great idea....

There also seems to be quite a bit of missing info here as well, did the OP buy the car with or without the file? If he got the file loaded, was the car doing this before? This should tell us if this is related to the software or not. From reading the post, it seems like he bought it already tuned, so who knows...

As has been suggested above, it would be best to get the car scanned and take it from there (I'm sure the tuner would be happy to do so).

I am asking and making these comments on purpose...

Some feedback. I bought the car stock and had it mapped. I had it at BMW today and it showed a boost error. I left it at the dealer and they will find out where the problem lie.
Nothing to do with the tuner. I am actually happy that it is not a software issue, since I really enjoy the additional power.
Thanks for all the replies and information given through.
