X5 - good deal or not?

Hi All,

I was just wondering if this vehicle is well priced for a private sale, and what would be an acceptable offer (price is negotiable)? What would the dealers sell it for? Or is it better/safer to rather purchase from a dealer?

Gumtree - X5 3.0D XDRIVE

The ad in summary reads:
BMW X5 3,0Diesel XDRIVE
Price: R599 000
2010 BMW X5 3,0D XDRIVE Sports pack edition, Auto, 27000kms, Metallic Black, Oyster Grey leather Interior, USB port, Panoramic Sunroof, Xenon Headlamps, PDC front and back, automatic hatch open and close, Smash and Grab, 20" Mags with runflat tyres, Square tailpipes.

This is a fully imported vehicle as is from Germany, looks very sporty and is too with a 195KW engine and surprisingly low on diesel consumption for such a large vehicle.

Still new, I reckon it's OK to buy private as long as the M/P is active and no reports on the car.

I am looking at replacing my Discovery, these X5's are priced well.....mmmmmm:idea:

M/P on a "imported" car from Germany? Doubt that!
But then.... Germany has LHD cars... this is a RHD car mmmmhhh ...

I am confused by it as well. Also, is that 195kw output correct?

I'm assuming all the seller means is that it wasn't built here locally in SA and BMW SA imported it for sale. Only 3 Series sedans are built locally so all other BMWs sold in SA are imports.

That said, the Rosslyn plant probably builds very high quality if not higher quality products than the other BMW 3 Series factories around the globe anyway.

All X5 are build in the US .... and there is no such 3.0d xdrive with 195kw

160kw
173kw
180kw
210kw thats the 3.0sd now called the 3.5d

..... anyways... tried to phone --> voicemail

I'm in Milnerton so will go and have a look and update this post :=):

IIRC, there was a slight update to the X5 in 2010. 2 major differences were the newer, improved iDrive and 8 speed auto box - might want to check if the car is the "revised" version.

Received feedback from SMG: car is clean, no comments

The change in terms of 8-speed box was for model year 2011 (production from 08/2010)
This car was sold in 07/2010 means it was build in the US at least in 05/2010 if not earlier

Update: according to VIN and RealOEM its a 05/2010 so still old gearbox

Will have a look as soon I get confirmation from owner

Slight thread derail, but was the revised iDrive done at the same time, or was it introduced earlier. I'm talking about the version which had all the extra buttons around the controller, not just one below it.

What do they mean by "clean"?
Also, how do you check for accidents especially if it was not reported to motorplan?

In most situations where you claim from insurance, the car needs to go to a BMW approved panel beater. Part of their process is to send the car back to BMW for a quality check after the work is done to ensure that MP is still intact. Hence BMW will record all details of the incident.

Highly unlikely that you'll get someone who pays this much for a vehicle and takes it to a back door panel beater for repairs ...

Different story if this were a R50k Tazz

I also think when you order parts for a BMW at agents, they require your VIN etc to record parts supplied (this includes wheels, fenders etc)

Damn. I really like this car.

Would be great if it was at a dealer, saving me the hassle of selling my car privately and to help out with a trade-in deposit

Need to do some number crunching tonight.
