X5 E53 PCV valve

Hey guys

Can someone please help...... how can i check to see if my pcv valve is in good working order? The car emits some black smoke from the exhaust on hard acceleration and it uses about 500ml oil every 2000km's. The car only has 140k km's on the clock.

Black smoke = overfueling.

Which x5 do you exactly have since they all have different engines.
