X5 E53 Door Handles

Greetings

My dad drives an '04 X5 E53 and he seems to have a problem with the door handles... The drivers side and both rear doors do not open and the handle doesn't sit flush they stick out a little bit ... The passenger door sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't...

I just wanted to find out if this has happened to anyone else and how do you fix this problem, do you have to buy a whole new door mechanism or not??

This is a common problem with e53 handle carriers. I had one and replaced the driver door 3 times and front passenger twice. And because the driver door ones break more often they are almost twice the price of the passenger side.

It is a bit of an issue ... Where do you buy the mechanism from and what's the price like??

You get good pirate ones... better than the BMW ones because they did not break.

They are called door handle carriers. And when you install them lube them up... I think that is what kills them.

Where are you based? I have one somewhere... I think.
