X3 (f25) navigation retrofit

Hi all.

I recently bought a 2012 x3 which does not have a sat nav system.

Does anyone know of someone in joburg apart from the dealers that supply a nav retrofit unit and does the installation?

What will this cost me?

I see they can be bought on ebay for about R10000. What will installation costs be and will I be able to get SA maps for it.

Any info or advice will be appreciated.

Hey bud,

Send a link to the eBay page that sells NBT units for R10k? There's lots of bits and pieces you'll need to add to make this work, not just the head unit and display. Coding the car to enable this properly is also a mission, so is installing the gps and other bits. I'm not aware of many guys in SA that have successfully done this retrofit before, so you need to keep that in mind as well.

The point is, such a retrofit can easily get to over R20k very easily ;)

That price is very, very good hey. Shipping will likely set you back another R2k or so. Add to that the vin blocker, gps antenna, mics, retrofit harness and VAT and you in the R16k region already. Them, that's gonna be a 1 day install with the coding needed for the car.

I also see it from the US, so you'll battle to get that radio compatible to work here.

My stock comes from Europe and the guys there pre-load the SA maps for me already. The units aren't simply pulled from wrecks, they are checked for cosmetic defects and tested to ensure they are 100% working and loaded with our local maps. They are, however, a lot more expensive and with the current exchange rate, have become prohibitively expensive for our market.

It's for this reason that my installs start from R20k, as you don't want to spend mega bucks on something with scratches all over the place - they are guaranteed to be pretty much perfect in all aspects.
