X3 advice

good morning guys, I posted last night but it seems there was a problem and only the 1st line of my question that was posted.

Anyway, i was thinking of trading my wife's F30 320D for a X3 2.0D. Is this a good swop or should i stay with the 320D. There is nothing wrong with the car and we totally happy but just thought it would be nice. The one we looked at was a a xline with lots of extras so my question would be should i go for msport or the xline.

My other concern is that she has a 2017 model now 7 the X3 is 2016 but it is alot more car than what she has now and it has 50000km vs her 47000km.

Any advice as well as pro's & cons of the X3 would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hi David

The most obvious thing is that the X3 offers way more space, height clearance and imo more comfort to the 3 series.

If those are attributes that you require then the X3 change is a good idea.

In terms of X line vs M sport. I have the M sport and the ride is harder than that of the Xline. It’s not something you can’t live with but it’s noticeable. Drive both and make a decision. Looks wise, the m sport is a winner.

You make notice the X3 feeling a bit slower than the 3 series due to its size but it’s not entirely a slouch.

In just not sure about your timing of selling since the G series is just launched.

In summary, I think the X3 is a great choice as a daily, over long distances and it offers more than enough space when needed. I enjoy mine and can’t see myself reverting to a sedan anytime in the near future.

The X3 might be a bit heavier on diesel than the 320D but I doubt it’s going to be significant enough, this for me is the only con between them.

Thank you for the info. Apart from the space & comfort, I've been offered a very good price for a trade on her car so that's also what got me thinking. Not really interested in the G-series for now as that will be priced out of my range anyway so one day when the price is right i'll look at that. Your reasoning makes sense though so i think i'll go for it.

Hi there,

I would look at the changes in these costs from the 320d to the X3:
- insurance
- tyres (heavier car with 4wd should wear out tyres faster)
- fuel (should be marginal difference)
- if you are still owing finance on the 320d and plan to take on finance for the x3, then compare the cost of extra financing per month (as well as the extra duration of finance on the x3).

Based on the last point, it may make sense to rather keep the F30 and settle the debt sooner compared to getting an X3 (at a higher instalment or over a longer term finance period). The interest saved may make for a nice deposit in a few years when you want to buy again.
