hello fanatics

got a issue with the E83.... X3 2.0d x-drive
so my mom decided to play bash with a duiker one morning, x3 won but had to go in for some paneling....

the company fixed her up all nice but decided to keep the car as the warning lights did not want to switch off, this was done and they then came back and said the actuator is stuffed so the 4x4 light wouldnt go off, this they claimed from the insurance and the go ahead was given as it was a safety issue bla bla bla....

now we have a problem.
the actuator was changed, now just before the car shifts to 2nd i get a slipping/ bumping sensation from the car, kinda like a knock while shifting into 2nd slightly rough..... this also happens when i come to a standstill.
when we took the car back they recon the gearbox is damaged, but this has only started since the new actuator was changed.
is this possible? was the wrong actuator used?
anyone had issues like this?

Can't be mounts, this has only started since these guys put in the new actuator. And they are saying this is caused by the gearbox being damaged..... I think it's a load of shit as there was no problem before the actuator change.

The new x-drive actuator needs to be calibrated before using for the first time after. This is done by switching on the iginition after replacement of the actuator, but without starting the car. The actuator will then cycle through its full range of movement to calibrate itself.

I suspect the workshop did not do this calibration properly.

Makes sense....... Does it calibrate automatically when you turn the ignition on?
If so then shouldn't it have done that? How would we re calibrate now?

If you have access to the underside of the car, I suggest you crawl in there, disconnect the electrical connector of the actuator, then re-connect and see if it will re-calibrate when you turn the ignition on. You can audibly hear the actuator going through its motions.
