this is in the UK but im betting it wont be long before we get the same crap as the government will be keen to to extort more money from us...

while i agree excessive speed is a bad thing on the road going 10-20 kph over the speed limit in places that are 'safe' makes near to no difference in accident avoidance... this is where they will make their money...

New, inescapable speed cameras
The Government has introduced a new generation of average speed camera that can track motorists across entire networks of roads.

The first versions went live on a stretch of the A13 carriageway that heads from southeast Essex into East London on January 31.
Existing average speed cameras only monitor a car's speed between fixed points on the road, but the new models are capable of consistently tracking a vehicle.

The latest system has 84 cameras and 37 average speed monitoring points - it can even keep an eye on drivers entering and exiting a stretch of road.
RoadPilot, a firm that specialises in speed camera detection devices, has warned that this could be the start of an average speed monitoring system that spans the UK.
Chief Executive of RoadPilot, James Flynn OBE, said: "If this system proves successful, it could be extended or rolled out to other locations, all of which can be linked together.

Taken to the extreme, the entire UK road network could, in theory, be linked up under one average speed monitoring system - meaning Big Brother could always be watching you!"
RoadPilot's speed camera database has already been updated with the new, advanced camera sites, so users of the company's products will be alerted to their presence.

What does it do if you drive at a quater of the speed limit for a few miles then do a 200Kmh 400M sprint? (Your average speed would still be "good")

You must be careful there, they trick you - they plant normal speed camera's just to catch you out in odd spots, you have to download the camera points from the locals...thats all most of them use their Tom Toms for LOL.

Now when in Singapore - Dohh :banghead:...they have transponders in the cars and when on the highway they track your speed constantly.

Well, isn't this what they are testing in KZN? Albeit with much less cameras, but the same idea: average speed trapping.

Why cant they pay me if I drive under the speed limit.....Same damn concept in reverse

lol but will it be worth the money...

Well if they catch me doing 100Kmh in a 120 zone .... That's R10 per Km under, so R200 owing to me for being good, and if they pay me early I'll give them a 50% discount, so therefore R100 per day or +/- R2500 per month because theres a camera on the way to work I always slow down for.

Now if they nail me driving more than 40kmh under the speed limit I'll have to take them to court to negotiate the amount they will pay me.

Works in my book!...... Yea right just imagine

They should definitely implement this kind of system. Just think how much this will slow down traffic, imagine a bunch of car crawling past a camera at 10km/h :)
Now we need to discuss how it would work with the cameras that catch guys jumping red lights, what kind of money are we talking if I don't jump a red light?

People, as soon as the new pay per kilometer toll system is implimented next year, it will get intergrated with the law enforcement side,
so they will indeed be able to do just what this system is doing, and not that far away, they want the system up and running in May. :dropjaw:

i just wish instead of focusing of speed they would make a system that spots dangerous driving... its well within possibility but i guess it would make less money :dunno:

You should have realised a long time ago that they are only worried about "road safety" when they can make money from it, I can think of a bunch of ways to make the roads safer, but unfortunately no officers are available to do this as they are all hiding in bushes.

Oh and there is technology available that should be able to automate the detection of dangerous driving.

but they could make money by fining people for driving badly
you know how much money they would make by fining for going out of you lane... im sure they could actually make more from that than speeding :)

They could make even more money by just seizing all the unroadworthy taxi's and selling them as scrap, but this is just wishful thinking, kind of like road safety being important.
