heat shield it is then :) i would imagine the branches would only distort at +800 C but the creep will mean they will get a hole in in them... how long that will take i dont know

looking at what has been mentioned by all our member I can conclude the following:
1. The branches will warp/bent at high heat.
2. Wrapping the branches with any tipe of material will cause material/metal fail at high heat.
3. Heat shield is better than wrap.

My personal opion is as follows:
1. Any metal will warp/deteriorate if the material used to manufacture is of sub-standard material.
2. Wrapping the branches in asbestos rope/tape will decrease the heat under the bonnet, and transfer it further down the exhaust pipe to the back.
3. Heat shield is a good idea, but where to bigger one for after market branches?

Why not combine the two (wrapping/heat shield) to lower the temp.

i wont be wrapping or coating my branches... it would give me a performance gain but it will also make my branches fail sooner i will be looking at ways to heat shield so i can keep the heat away from the rest of the engine... before i supercharge i will also look at ways of increasing air flow over the branches to make the temp the same as what they will be now.

In terms of a heat shield I thought a first step approach could be to simply lengthen the heat shields already in place so that they close off the gap between the engine and the shock tower. After that you could possibly modify it with another layer to improve shielding, our you can make a piece of ducting, like the brake ducts, to direct airflow to the branches, of course with this you will need something to keep water out, don't water on a couple hundred degree branches now do we :)

i was thinking that but i will also have to look at what else in in there that could be damaged by the extra heat...
im also thinking i will cover this shield in heat wrap or some other insulation to make it block more heat...
but for now im just cleaning the inside of the branches and will have them fitted

If you can afford the R3k premium of the ceramic coating inside and out, that would be the best option.
Coating is very durable and since the coating can be applied inside as well, the actual metal does not get as hot.
