WRAP SHOP DAMAGED CAR REFUSING TO PAY

What’s happening everyone , so I had a terrible experience at a shop here in Boksburg that tinted my headlights (PS lights were in perfect condition before any of this )

So the story goes like this .....

I tinted the lights at the end of December , fast forward 2 weeks later I wasn’t feeling it so decided to have the tint removed , upon removal I noticed that there were cut lines all over the lights and the worst part is that the lens had crazing on them only where the tint was applied also there is the residue which is stuck on there . So I inform the owner of the shop about it and he accepts responsibility for the cut lines and offers for them to do a Headligt restoration obviously I don’t want them near the car again so I decline also the crazing can’t be removed with a simple restoration these cracks are in the lens (look at the quality of their so called “restoration below” scratches all over another persons lights from their sandpaper and lack of knowledge ) . The owner is refusing to replace my lights and is threatening me with legal action if I speak a word of the experience I had with them (since when is freedom of speech a crime ? ) . Please can anyone give some advice on how to handle this matter , I’m going to show him the damage tomorrow at his shop . I have the full WhatsApp convo available .

Also found this post online which confirms the crazing part

Are they deep?

There is a company called zeetec customs I'm sure they can sort that out for u... But they based in cape town. . You have to strip the lights and ship it to them... Used them before excellent service and workmanship

Just take legal action against them if they not willing to fix their damage.... And sue them

They catch my nail when I run so yeah would think so . Heard of that place Zeetech will contact them see what options they have and pricing . Yah man legal route would be the Best but also costly and long to get through unfortunately. Just want them sorted out , gonna show the owner of the shop the damage they did , this is pure negligence. Will name and shame if it isn’t resolved amicably.

I restore headlights in my spare time. The result experienced is because they did not prep the surface correctly.

I usually sand till 1500 grit the apply a clear uv resistant coating designed for polycarbonate plastics.

This can be fixed as a diy with some elbow grease.

Good luck.

I need to ask this, why on earth would you tint your headlights in the first place? Isnt that illegal and dangerous?

It seems like in Boksburg "some" of so called BMW experts are notoriously "skelm"; I am still embroiled in the case of a supplier selling me rims that were all buckled this has been going on for a Year "read my post & threads" ...........

Go to the NCC "National Consumer Council" as I did it will be cheaper and more consistent than a lawyer :fencelook:

Who told you it’s illegal? You don’t even know how dark the tint is?

Any amount of tint on a headlight is illegal as it impedes the light output, I thought this was common knowledge and sense...

Try getting a car through roadworthy at a legitimate testing station with tinted lights, i dare you.

That does not look good at all Bud.. Scratches/cut marks are one thing, but cracks in the lenses is totally different..

I have used Lamin-x on my fogs for years and have had VPS shields on my headlights for just as long, never seen damage like this.. Cut marks yes.. But not cracks.

In Aus and in England it IS ILLEGAL

watching stuff on DSTV, where they remove the roadworthy of the car because of tinted lights, manufacturer has designated a specified legal luminosity as OEM, aftrermarket people break the regulations

Based on where the crazing occurred, it seems that only the eyelid portion was tinted, as I have done my car. The other scratches were as a result of the shop trying to restore the headlights.

I am no legal expect but in this case I would like to assume the issue has to be handled in house first before you go out and say things. You can be sued for defamation of character since we only have one side of the story you are creating a bias which could harm their business interests. Remember there is freedom of speech but you have to be responsible and take ownership of what you say after the fact.

Like I said, just speculation here. Maybe a real lawyer can share more information.

Take them to the Small Claims Court (if the claim is below R15000). No lawyer needed, just uses up your time

If you are in the right you will most likely win

Actually the whole light was tinted , seems like where the tint was stretched that’s where the cracks formed.

My headlights are tinted and there is no difference in light out put visible to my eyes.

Sorry about the headlights bud.
