It's not about being able to afford the fuel though is it? It's about fossil fuels running out and finding alternatives. Hybrids and fuel cell vehicles, and later hydrogen is the way to go. Sooner or later petrol will no longer be an option and alternative energy cars will become the standard

All depends on the application. In town traffic for the daily commute a hybrid makes sense, why spend more than needed? For the heart, that's another story. Once the technology catches up with fossil fuels in terms of performance and price, ja, why not?

That is true. But not everyone can afford a R300 000 car. And the only thing I am afraid of is the fact that hydrogen is still reasonably cheap per "unit". But once it becomes our primary fuel source it will also become insanely expensive. :thumbdo:

And that is also true. I would love to buy a Tesla for work and back trips. But it costs $110000...

You are correct... I think... :thinking:
The price difference you pay on a diesel, and with what you save per litre when driving, is only really worthwhile if you drive allot of highway. In town my 325i avarages 10-12l/100, so 8-10km/l. When I still had my 320d I got 8-11l/100, so 9-12km/l.
Now allot of this depeds on how you drive, but I really cant see why you drive a diesel in town, when you can have a straight 6 :rollsmile:

True, but we don't know how problematic the hybrids are. could cost more in the long run. only time will tell :fencelook:
