Talk about having it bad.
While driving to lenz there was a freakin moerse storm and had to park the car off cause we couldnt see anything.
Anyways water levels reached the top of the front number plate and needless to say car wouldn't start :bawling:
even lost my phone to the water when i jumped out of the car.

Anyways got the car towed back home and now it is starting but missfires and rev counter just moving up and down.

I am gonna drain the transmission fluid, replace oil and filter, probably fuel filter as well and spark plugs.

Anybody have an idea of the countless other problems there could be or what else i should do.

Thanks guys.

That sounds Electrical,

The gearbox has a one way valve breather on top, and your fuel filters are sealed (else you would of had a fuel leak)

I would not go to such extreme just yet. Perhaps just a leave out in the sun for a day will help.

Is it an auto box, because if it is a oil change is going to cost you a pretty penny.

I would take the car to BMW, and do it as an insurance claim, you must have flood damage ?

Did the water go over the block, and did it get into the cabin ?

Manual gearbox and not over the block.

Thanks man - will do insurance claim if i can't sort it out cheaply and by myself..

Then its not mechanical I do not think.

Before you go mal replacing spares, give it chance to dry, and if you still have a problem, have the car diagnosed, this really sounds electrical/electronic, and no amount of replacing spare parts will sort that.

Where is the car ?

Parked at home - will give it a few days to dry out and then if there stil a problem will call auto elec.

Thanks guys.

Also, check your exhaust, I believe there is a sensor on there to measure oxygen levels, and its clear that I hot exhaust that received rapid cooling can and has most likely cracked, although there is still an electrical issue as well if your rev counter running up and down.

I dont think its the ECU as the car does start... but I could be wrong

Good luck with the fix man, keep us updated.

wow - it only gets better.

Car just needed to dry out - drove for the past 2 days and today guess what :
that beautifull knocking noise coming from cylinder 6 - can't hear a noise once it hits 2000rpm but I think this is a bearing knock.

Must get it sorted now month end.....eish

Eish dude....

 on the drying out.

:dropjaw: on the bearing noise... that really sucks.

I have done big ends on a Jetta before without pulling the block, guess you cant do that on your six :(

I also hit big ends on my scoobie, bought a motor from jap motor imports, swapped top and bottom and sold the car.

Luv the car too much (e46 stil the best looking eva) - even with its 190000kms.....it is a second vehicle and so many small things wrong but will look to fix it rather than sell it.
