Wiperblades, options ?

Hi wonder if anyone has any advice on wiperblades, I dont have a MP anymore and now got quoted R502,10 excl VAT for wiperblades and R52,5 excl VAT to fit the blades total is R632,24 incl VAT. BTW this is on an E90 and I have a feeling (also because MP isnt paying) that I am being smoked a bit excessivly here. Are there alternative options, Im not looking for 100 bucks rubbish that will squeak but are the places in JHB that stock and sell Bosch blades at more reasonable prices? I would rather pay R450 and fit them myself instead of funding the stealership.

Dude, seriously, I think they are robbing you. I know Midas here in Pretoria doesn't stock blades, but I might know someone who does, and a fraction of the price, but also in Pretoria.
Lets see if someone else on the forum can maybe help you, if not, I will give you the guy here in Pretoria's number ok.

Go directly to a Bosch service centre. Bought a set for my E46 and even had them fitted for free (not that I needed them to do it, but they offered ... ).

Durablades, look for those in black packaging. "Now for late model european cars". Some people don't like them, I swear by them.

thx I didn't realised there was a newer revised version available, I will consider that too, I'm glad to know that I have several options other than the dealer.

Champion brand also good , do not know if they stock for late models . Autozone were R250 for 2 for e36 about 12 months ago . Here in SA with harsh sun we need to replace annually ,but ...lazy:=):

I may be wrong, but e90 does not use a system where you can replace the rubber part of the blade. They use the bosch aerotrim, which is a complete unit, ie the blade and the "holder" are one piece.

R400 and something bucks from BMW for BMW branded bosch aerotwin

Was also thinking the same :dunno:

In any case, you can also get a pair of Bosch Aerotwins for the E46 - much better than the "older" design - quieter and seems to wipe better and I think about R50 more than the conventional ones at Bosch.

did not know wipers can cost that much... had mine replaced on motorplan, try if you can...

No chance, my MP expired on time, and despite the super low mileage they wont extend anymore because I just waited a bit too long (4 months). So now I gotta kak en betaal.

Yep, it appears to be a complete unit designed to probably work slightly better than the more traditional designs, but more than that, cost an arm and a leg to replace out of motorplan. Are there not any generics available yet? If not I am sure there will be at some point. But yes, this is going to be something I am going to have to look at one of these days...

Durablades - used them many years ago on all of our cars and they really were horrible to be honest. Screeching and shuddering most of the time, not nice! Okay, they probably will last forever, but they will never work properly - something about glass and silicon being too similar, compared to rubber/glass, not sure though. If it works, great though!

Thx Phil, time to update your signature, after changing the wheels on the E46. ;)

Never used durablades , but prefer to replace whole blade assembly -no floppy wiper then , blade is at correct angle to glass .

Personally on my car I would prefer to just change the blade and not the whole wiper assembly, for the simple reason that e46 has some of the best looking wipers in my opinion of course.
I am picky about these kinds of things

The only thing that can cause a problem with this though is that the actual blade assembly develops a degree of wear which by itself can cause the newly fitted blade element and assembly to shudder - I have been through this problem many times in the past without realising and then simply fitting the entire new blade assembly to find that it works perfectly and quietly.

Were looking at some Aerotwins for a E60. R750 from dealers, R417 from Goldwagen. Can't beat the math.
