Hi guys.
just to let you know, i managed to replace the wiper motor and things are back to normal on that front.
Couldnt find anything conclusive on the internet, so decided to tackle it and see where i ended up. It was a long and tedious process, but in the end it was a success.
Just a brief rundown of what i did.
- open the bonnet to the service position
- Remove wiper arms (Might be a bit tight at first, but eventually it will come of after some pulling and pushing.
- Remove the rhs cowling (the one thats under your wiper, no clips or any thing, just slide out)
- Remove all engine covers (you gonna need every ounce of space available)
- remove rhs bonnet sealing rubber and the rubber that goes around the microfilter mesh.
- Unclip the microfilter mesh.
- Under the mesh there will be 2 star screws that hold the main harness against the microfilter tray, open these out.
- Proceed to remove the microfilter tray (3 no.7 bolts, 2 on the rhs, and 1 on the lhs)
After all this, the wiper mechanism should be visible behind the firewall. After wondering how BMW managed put it there in the first place, proceed with the following:
- Unplug the wiper motor from the lug. (Its the round twisty type, like the MAF).
- Near the plug, you will see a L bracket securing the assembly to the body. Open the bottom most nut, and loosen the upper nut.
-Where the wiper arms came off, there are big no.27 nuts, you have to open these out.
- The assembly is now loose. You just have to maneuver it out through the window in the firewall, next to the blower motor, although it will seem impossible.
Installation is similar to removal, just remeber that when you installing, manually work the assembly until you get it in the right size/angle to fit back in.
Hope this helps guys.
