Why not M335i

Not sure if this has been discussed!!

Was just wondering, why do you get a M135i and a M235i, but not a M335i or M435i and why is the 1 & 2 slightly more powerful?

Does anyone actually know why??

It can't be because you get a M3 and M4 because there will soon be a M2 and we had the 1M

I've seen plenty of M335i's driving around... Usually with the ///M bigger than the rest of the badge

From what I have heard, there will be an M340i M Performance model release with about 260kw power on the new engine platform. Will sport the yellow M Brakes etc and will be competition for the new C450 AMG directly...Audi will be getting left behind a bit with the S4 but I am sure they planning something also...

To be fair, audi has been "ahead" with their S4 vs 335i for quite some time. Even the new 340i is a little underpowered vs S4.

Cool, that sounds great, pity they didn't do the same thing with the pre LCI

So it's a M340i MPerf, does it mean it has the AeroKit or is it just the upgraded motor with the MPerf logo on the engine cover? I googled it and the pics look like a normal MSport.

While on the one page they mentioned the M2, seems like it's coming out with a N55 motor not the B58, but I suppose there are big differences in the actual motors.

I guess in the F20/21, u only get the M135i and no 135i, likewise in the F30 U get a 335 only.
If that makes sense.....

Well it's pretty much that. RS4/M3 definitely, but below the "big gun" bmw has a 335i and audi has an A4 3.0T and an S4. The 335i kinda falls in the middle (both price and performance). The 340i is just the new 335i and doesn't change anything. You could say it competes with the 3.0T because a 335i and 320i look the same and all A4's look the same, while the S4 looks different.

My A4 has 19 inch rotors, sline suspension, sline body kit and sline interior. Only difference visually between it and an S4 is 2 extra exhausts and ugly grey dials...

What are you comparing exactly ? Perfomance ? because an S4 won't even touch my m135i I have raced a few it ended badly for them. Not to mention when I had my Focus ST 250 which was chipped and had a downpipe I gave a RS5 beans from the line.

The 340I has a whole new engine, and that is the biggest change looks wise the 340i looks like a p//fl 335 but you can't expect drastic changes on a facelift.... The 340i may not put away a 4wd Audi on launch but topend it hauls ass

Also the current A4 range needs an update which long overdue

The whole M business is just BMW's way of marketing, to make it sound like the M division have done the work on the car but it's not really.

These cars certainly have a few tricks up their sleeves but.........

True M Power ( out of M Division), they are not - great cars though-cos they are BMWs of course

Ther was never going to be a 1M in the F20/21. The M135 was just a way to fill the gap till the M2.

Its not a pure ///M car but a N55 with the performance pack. Not ///M suspension but motorpsort and no signature ///M car Mechanical LSD. Also no M Performance Aero Kit as standard.

On launch of the F30, there was talk of a M335i and M335d configured as above but with the Aero Kit standard but never materialised.

So if u want a F30 M335, you gonna have to buy a 335 m sport and add the performance package and Aero Kit. Either way still does not matter, wont be a true ///M car just like the M135.
