Which way to go

Guus, this must've been asked before but i still want some current advice/suggestions. Im in the market amd cannot make up my mind, E90 320d or 330d. Car will mostly be driven by my wife once or twice a week maximum 60km round trip at a time and then weekends wherever we go as a family. I have something else for my day to day commute. Taking service costs and diesel consumption into account, what is recommended?

330d will surprise you consumption wise. My E60 530d is epic so the 330d must be better even

Seeing both are diesel they both have amazing consumption. Service cost per year are abysmal. So def go 330d.

Service cost for oil change for the four cylinder diesels used to be from R980 and the six cylinder diesels R1500

In most cases, the 330d is more desirable simply because you get a lot more performance, with excellent fuel economy. A clean 330d will be more expensive than a clean 320d, so really it is about your budget preference and what you can find available in the market.

Would go 330d power n economy
I think logically u will have to 'work harder' on 320 to keep up as opposed to the sublime performance of 330d...as they say sometimes bigger is better or either go big or...it depends on your budget and future plans..all d best

I would ask whichever service center you use for an estimate especially on the major services.

You might shyte your pants ( like I did for my Chrysler Voyager 2.8CRD having been quoted R30k for the 120k km service).

Good luck bud!

:roflol::roflol::roflol: If the E53 3.0d kept me smiling during my teen years then I can imagine just how great the E90 330d would be better.

330d in a heart beat.

Oil service on 320d R1400
....................330d R1600

That is on the current specials at BMW dealers, note this is for oil, oil filter and labour only.

FYI Special ends end of August 2016. The extra oil is what make the price difference on the oil service between the two models.

What is the invoice made out for? What is the breakdown of the R30k cost?

330d hands down, if you can afford it over a 320d.

Service cost is marginal between the 2 compared to the price difference. IIRC, the brake discs are larger on the 330d, so besides a basic oil service, that would also increase the service cost on the 330d a bit.

Stuff like an auto gear box would take more punishment on the 330d, but you have to work the engine harder on the 320d, so it's probably much over muchness.

In theory, tyres replacement costs will be identical on both the cars. However, you will wear the rear 330d tyres down quicker, because it is so much more rewarding to do so. The same goes for brakes. The 330d is a difficult car to drive with restraint all the time.
