I am not to familiar with sw on the bmw's, which sw is currently running smoothly and strong on the bmw's? I know of xcede and that is about it? Do you get sw for them with handhelds to change between maps?

The Dastek Unichip-Q series is excellent. it has the facility to ad a 5-point switch to switch between different maps. I have similar Unichip units installed in four of the vehicles I drive. Speak to Dastek at head office in Pta to get detail of a technician near you. Remember, the cip is as good as the technician who does the tuning.

You can also do ram-mapping, which entails mapping inside the original ECU programming. I had it doen on my one BMW and will not do it again.

You can also look at a plug-and-play unit if your car is still under guarantee.

you van PM me if you need more info

For the 135, Xcede has done many. The results of the ones done speak for themselves.

You can also PM Andz from the forum who has an Xcede tuned 135.

I've done Project Shift software (from Burgy) on my 330d and Im happy with the overall gain and "smoothness" of the car.

there are a few different tunes which have been available to the users on this forum.

that which has shown some of the best results is JB4. Perhaps look up the JB4 Support thread.

Have Xcede on all my cars.

No offense to the other tuners on this thread but I would highly recommend Xcede , the number of Beemers tuned by them speaks for itself.

Thanks, have spoken to Andz before about sw, so I must just decide which route to go.

Ram mapping is done when the performance maps programmed into the ECU is remapped directly, in other words, a piggyback computer module such as a Dastek Unichip is not installed and tuned to give new instructions to the existing original OE map.

Maybe he means, ecu removed and file loaded. Think its called bench mapping or something.

Dodgy, i would never go that route, know some tuners do that.

when it comes to BMW, Xcede hold a big stick for teaching other tuned BMW's the way to make power and deliver it in a proper, enjoyable and yet daily-drivable manner...that is the truth be told.

there are many other tuners but i also suggest you do your own homework and research and do not expect easily available, answers as every forum will have biased approaches.

when your research shows you the amount of suucessful tunes of a company and good aftersales interaction and service, then you will know best that suites you and your car. you see alot of people asking for advice for these things for their cars and alot of biased input into these threads and then if something goes wrong, relationships get affected as well.

Good luck in your search bud!

For the 135 (x35) the Jb4 offers best value for money and tons of features and it is used internationally by thousands of users. There are many users on this forum as well.

Exede is not a vendor on this forum. There are paid vendors on this forum which you can contact in the sponsors forum for advice on their products.

Too many people throwing words around without actually know what they mean .... just like the guy with the "Group N" cams who assumed....

Why wouldn't you do bench mapping? With many new BMW can o.ly be done that way

I guess most users are not tuners and in the performance motoring industry. They hear stuff and then just repeat what they hear.

I am guilty if that too. I really on pros like you to set me right.

If there is anti-tuning, I would rather opt for a piggyback solution like a JB4 or proceed. Just the thought of someone stripping out your control unit makes me nervous.
