Hi Guy's

So I have been thinking about getting a Mini for the Chick,

I Know absolutely nothing about Mini's

How is the resale value on a Mini?
How does the MP work and from which model would have the full 5Year 100K Plan?

Which Mini should We look at?

I see you get a Cooper and a HATCH etc but they look the same to me :sorry:

Is a Mini fun to drive daily?

I will be looking at maybe selling the Z4MC to buy her a Mini for a year or so till funds are in Order for my next ///M :inlove:

F56 Cooper: 1.5 3 cylinder turbo.
F56 Cooper S: 2l turbo

The price of the cars have become a bit much but the build quality has improved a lot. I've driven both and the ride is much better that the R56 ( out going model)

The Fiesta ST is a bargain yes but it has a choppy ride and the interior is starting to look dated. The quality of materials used isn't as good as the MINI either.

Then there is after sales service. From personal experience in owning a Ford, the service generally sucked compared to BMW.

Another note on the MINI is that a lot of things that were options on the outgoing model are now standard on the new one. The price still eish!

I was quoted R400k for and F56 S with a sunroof and auto box, which is dsg quick by the way. I will personally probably suck it up and get the F56 next year because I enjoy the brand and the fun factor of the cars which hasn't been lost in the F56. Yes it is a bit more grown up and sensible but it still pokes you in the side to misbehave.

Mini resale is trash. I lost 28% on cost in 10kkms (one year). The average offer was actually 45% down on cost, but after fighting with the dealership about the quality of the car they sold it to a second hand dealer with no margin. I don't know about the new gen, but the R57 was badly put together and things generally did not work as they should. This ranged from basic issues of random squeeks, to the door not being aligned properly, to a rubbish HK sound system, to the user unfriendly idrive/mini connected system, to flat spots in the rev range. My particular one wasn't reliable, I know a few people who felt the same way including a mini sales person. After sales wasn't great either, no real support when i had issues. My brand new car spend no less than 6 weeks at the dealership in the first year of ownership.

There's 3 Variations

R53 - old model
R56 - outgoing model
F56 - new model

All besides F56 came with a 3 year / 75 000km plan(extendable) , F56 has the same plan as Bmw.

The R56 is a 1.6T.

Some R56 models had issues but there was a major update in late 2010 which saw a new engine called N18, the older one had an N14.

The JCW only got the revised engine in 2013.

I drove a R56 Jcw and the new F56 in the week, while the F56 is certainly a good
revision and has more options to choose from it isn't miles ahead like when there was a change from a R53 to R56.

Performance wise, the F56 didn't feel as quick as the JCW. It's not slow but not as fast as the Jcw.

I would go for a 2013 Jcw any day over the F56.
Also not a fan of the way it looks.

I would imagine resale is bad on a R57.
Small margin swings the convertible way. It's either hatch or countryman people go for.

My bad. I had the R59 not the R57, but it is possible that the resale is particularly bad on convertibles. The quality issues though, i still find disgusting. I'm not usually one to change cars often, my hand was forced by the issues in this case.

Dean you want to sell.

And BTW, new Cooper is great and comes with 5 year and 100000km maintenance plan. not the old 3 year one.

I don't see a problem with either.

But the mini's are fun and if I had the means would have gone for a Cooper with some toys for a daily.

Lolz, feel for you bud.

But if you had gotten her the mini she would have had a smile on her face every day after her drive from work.

You would have been thanked over and over in the months to follow :)

The 2 series is a good alternative though!

Good luck, my wife is looking a a Nissan Kaskar or a 320i? To me its a bit of a no brainer but if she wants to drive a 1.2t manual rather than a 2.0t 8 speed auto that is her choice.
