My wife has given me licence to buy me a two seater roadster. only 3 tickle my fancy z4, 350z, and so far my fav s2000. i just wanted to know what you guys think? budget under 200k. Also got first baby on the way, excited 4 months to go! my wife drives volvo xc60 so no reason why i cant get a roadster for myself, right?

Congrats on the baby and the licence to be young again :biglol:

Personally I would probably go for the Z4 3.0i Manual, the build quality does not compare to the others you mentioned. I would even consider an MCoupe....what a car, it is a bit old, but if you find one in good nick - it will be a masterpiece.

I also like the power of the S2000!

what z4 can you get for under 200k?

Pre-facelift 2003 - 2006 sells for around that mark.

2007 onwards MX5 with the retractable hardtop.
It might be the slowest of the 3 cars you mentioned, but surely the most fun to drive.

i just watched fifth gear s2000 vs 350z on youtube and s2000 is better in everyway, out of the 3, the 350z i wasnt so keen on so its out. i'm a honda fan aswell and s2000 was always a dream car. in fifth gear vid you must see and hear the honda rev to 9000 rpm wow! honda is much lighter than all the others thats why with so little torque its a slightly faster than other 2 so i've read. only downfall can think of is resale value.

My order of preference would be Z4 -> 350Z/S2000, my only concern for the 350Z would be replacement parts.

We've had all 3 of these cars at work and I've driven in the 350Z (very nice car). S2000 at work has been modded and is just beastly, would take my 330 quite easily but I'm a bigger fan on the Z4, especially if you can get the N52 3.0L.

I think either way, you would be ending up with a great car. The only real way to decide will be to drive the cars, they are all so different.

I havent driven either car so from total lack of 1st hand experience this is what i'm thinking:

Excitement- honda s2000
looks- s2000
space- similar
not so common- s2000
resale- z4
speed - similar
comfort-z4

To be honest and i hate to say it but i think s2000 is just a more fun and complete package. You will have miles of fun with that car. I think you have to separate the groups. S2000, mx-5 in one group and in the other you would have 350z, Audi TT, BMW Z4. Depending on your preference if you just want a toy, which i'm assuming as your buying under R200k then you would look at the first group where the S2000 is the best. If you were looking more at a daily drive and something you would only occasionally give a push then you would rather look at the second group

OK, so I had the S2000 for a few weeks.
Great NA Engine but needs to be worked to reward.
NOT an easy daily drive...! Clutch is a bastard if you get stuck in any traffic. Many blown engines as a result of having to keep near redline all too often.

Z350 - Sold many...Fuel Tank issues, tiny boot, coupe ok but soft top loses too much stability. Clutch will go and can cost R 25,000.00 and brakes are a bitch to replace too.

Z4 3.0i is my overall favorite and will be light on fuel on a daily basis and act like a hooligan when you want it to.
AND ITS A BMW!!! - Also, see the power gain with a SC. Insane.

Well done on the new addition to the family.
I had to go back to a 4 Door as I have three boys!

if i get z4 it will def be 3.0l.
i know they are different, to find and drive is difficult, was hoping you guys who have driven just share your experience.
they both tick my boxes:
roadster,manual, fun, fast

I will +1 on those cost issues, parts are really expensive.

inspector- thanks that was helpful. if i dont get a roadster now, i dont think will be able too in the future. The car that i buy will use 4 days a week, traffic not really an issue, living in da EL.

chris- i'm not interested in those cars just z4 and s2000, why not in the same group?

Thanks to all for comments really appreciate it, keep it coming!

Another thing is that if i buy z4 it will be an old shape and s2000 there is really only one shape but then again its discontinued, not important but my mind just thinking 1 million things at once

I have driven a 350Z roadster hard and hated it. Jelly mould dynamics and sounds like a weed eater!!

Go test drive all of them and decide for yourself. You are the one that must be happy at the end of the day.

actually ive changed my mind i was thinking of a hardtop 350z im not sure i would get the conv... the S2000 has an X shaped centre piece to keep it stiff...

if you also looking at the 350z hardtop then i would take that... if not then S2000
