Which car to buy e90 320i M sport or e90 320d M sport or none

I need advice from fellow (experienced) BMW owners.

I have a old 1998 BMW e36 328i which is my baby and love to death when I got my first Job at 19 I went straight for her which did not make financial sense thinking with heart instead of pocket. Few years down the line now 23 and working as a rep I bought a 2012 VW 1.2 TDi bluemotion which is light on the juice and all round good car and there is nothing wrong with it but it lacks that feeling that only a BMW can give you sheer driving pleasure since I spend a lot of time on the road.

I am now selling the VW at 76000km and thinking of moving into a 320i or 320d second hand under R180k my monthly expense on a car is limited I cant afford if some major goes wrong with it, I have found some good deals on the web but my questions is :

*How problematic is it?
*Would you advise buying it if I do rep work?
*Which is a better buy 320d or 320i?
*How much is servicing and maintaining it out of maintenance plan?

I have seen a lot of e90 models with lots of km's on them and even Metro have some in their fleet but would it work out for a average Joe should I forget about owning one.

Thank guys

For repping, 320d hands down. The fuel consumption mixed with the power is a winner. My friend has one and the service costs are pretty cheap for a fairly modern BMW :dunno:

For 180k you can get a very nice facelift 320d on motorplan. When MP expires get an aftermarket warranty.

The 320d will be a lot lighter on juice and have a lot more power.

For me its a no brainer... 320d all the way.

Auto is pretty strong with E90 upwards

For a daily with our traffic I would suggest auto. You'll love it once you're used to it.

320d boet! I own the 320i msport and trust me for repping it would be too heavy on fuel and its underpowered.

I am still used to auto's being great until something goes wrong with it then money flows out your pockets. I see your 530d is a steptronic have you had any hassels?

I have no knowledge when it comes to the e90's but if a 320i owner votes for a 320d then surely in my case its a better option and any idea of the running costs and servicing?

I advertised it for R162 000 but on the forum to fellow BMW owners I would let it go for R152 000 neg

to check out the ad bluemotion tdi

You can't compare the auto of an E39 to an E90. The E90 box is MUCH stronger.

That being said, I've had absolutely no hassles with the box and my car is now on 253xxx km. I even have software on, which many people advised against due to the box not being manufactured for the power I'm putting out.

Look after the car as it was meant to be, and you will have no problem

point taken I will no longer discriminate against auto in my searches:sorry: ... the e36 328i that I have is on 178 000 and still a machine with the modern cars it seems like it was build with an expiry date (aka out of motor plan)

Haha discriminate against auto all you want :roflol:

But seriously. The diesel is most DEFINITELY what you want for your line of work.
