Where to service X5 out of MP in Cape Town

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a decent independent workshop to service an E70 X5 3.0d in Cape Town. Any recommendations? I have heard that after the MP runs out, BMW will just hose you and try replace everything as they did under MP rather than repair etc. :thumbdo:

Anyone you would avoid? Are the independents guys able to work on the electronics and computers of these cars? Lastly, average cost of a service?

Thanks a mil for you comments.

Or Bruces Workshop in Kennelworth. Their phone number is 021 671 0559
They have looked after my E53 X5 4,4 and my 325ci and so far so good.

Not true....

Out of the 3 BMW X5 I own 2 are out of Motorplan and both are serviced by SMG just like Herr Hamann which enjoys being under MP still until 2014

I can only say that I have been treated fair; had a problem with the E53 and the self leveling rear axle last week where the car was "lowered" (by itself) just like a racing car.....
R365.80 later at SMG all working fine again and the car was even cleaned

Id say 808 garage. Where abouts are you?

Judging by their quick response to my queries, workshop setup my vote would also be Garage 808 in belville.
Ill post up a review once they're done working on my car.

Agreed, great service they actually look at your car. My friend took his x5 to auric auto and explained his problem, they told him its the gearbox and its R90 000 to replace. Then they wanted him to sell his car to them for R20 000. As his car was only worth R110 000. They are full of shit. They dont call them stealer ships for nothing.

Thumbs up on the bruces. I think its actually Brilliant Mechanical Workshop now though. So we took my mates X5 there, Rick actually came out. Spent 20 mins looking over the car. And actually gave a shit.

My suggestion is to take it to BMW for a service and a good independent workshop for any repairs. Most X5 buyers look for FSH at BMW, so unless you plan on keeping it forever, BMW dealership servicing cost are actually not that bad. You can still ask the BMW dealer for a diagnostics report at the time of service, but you don't have to let them repair it, but rather just do the service and fix the issues elsewhere or even DIY.

i use old Bruce's in kenilworth too, Rolf and his team are awesome. for servicing I'll take my car to SMG though, if I'm not mistaken a oil service on an e46 cost abt 500 bux last time i checked
