Hi all,

Any ideas or recommendations on who I can take my car to in CAPE TOWN specifically, to fix the dreaded e39 dead pixels on the cluster of my m5?

I am handy mechanically, but not so much electronically, and have seem people DIY it with no success,
so I would like to get it done properly!

Please let me know,

also any links the the ribbons I would need or parts would be greatly appreciated!

Any garage/mechanic recommendations in Cape Town, as a general question?
Used Reynolds in Retreat and Brilliant Mechanical workshop in the past, but a bit out of the loop nowadays,
is Garage 808 still around, are they good?
Any other places you have experienced good workmanship and service?

A place that has experience in M cars and specifically the E39 S62 would be a bonus,

Thanks!

Hi Nirvash, you can obtain the required ribbons etc from pixelfix. I've ordered from them previously, based in Hungary and shipping is fast.

Just my opinion. Looking at the DIY, I would probably take out the cluster myself and take it to a shop that specialise working with electronics. This looks like a typical piece of work for them.

There is this arduino whatsapp group that I often see the guys do magic like what is required here, actually they do far more intricate fixes on TV, audio equipment etc.

I tried to DIY this, it was not the hardest job, but I would highly recommend you get a 540i cluster and practice on that first or use it for spare parts. It is quite easy to damage those little motors...

Most guys charge about 2k to do a job like this excluding any parts. I know someone who has done a few of these, you can PM me for his details, based in Fourways

I used an auto electrician to repair the motors on my cluster who subcontracted the work to:

M539 had completed a fix on his E39 touring if you want to tackle it yourself (could be a different car that I'm remembering but check his channel).

Seemed like a delicate job that required a bit of finesse.
