Wheel Alignment and OEM Battery

Hi Guys,

I have a BMW E90 320i 2011

Need Some help.

1. Wheel Alignment - I have took my car to TWT for wheel alignment. After doing the alignment, I found the steering is to be slightly off(Not straight) whenI drive the car straight. TWT attempted 5 times and could not get it right. I called BMW and the service guy said only they can get it right as they know how to set the cambers. There price is R900 which I find high. Is there any BMW specialist I can take my car to around Durban to have the alignment done or does have to go to agent?

2. Battery - My car has a slow start due to battery and the battery light keeps coming on. BMW wants R3600 for battery which excludes labour and computer programming. Can I put an OEM battery in my car? and who will be able to register battery to car software? Or do I have to go to agents?

I am from Durban area in KZN.

Can someone please advise?

Thank you.

On the Wheel Alignment, try a TWT that works mainly on higher end cars - so, maybe the Umhlanga branch?
In Joburg, the Sandton TWT usually do a better job than the other TWTs that cater for more basic vehicles.
However, I would wait for feedback from someone on this forum who lives in Durban.

Howsit bud,

1. supertech usual charges R600 to do the alignment, TWT probably messed up your cambers, so I'd recommend paying the premium at BMW (which has a 2 year guarantee for some piece of mind), alternatively, you can try Total Wheel Rebuild in pinetown.

2. Purchased a bmw battery ("white" battery) from supertech last week for around R1850, the "black" battery which is for the F series models are in the R3.6k price range.

Good Luck

i can strongly suggest the ffg:

1. Alignment: The front alignment on a BMW is very limited in what you can set, Toes are the easiest adjustable. Cambers have a very limited range of adjustment and Castor is fixed. If Castor is out then you got worn/bent arms in the front. On the rear you can adjust both camber and toes and is more finicky.

I can strongly recommend Vees tyre and alignment in Longbury drive Phoenix. Ask for Vee (ex mechanical engineer) personally and he will assist you with you alignment issues. 031- 500 6041

2. Battery, You can purchase your battery loose and take it to The BM Workshop, Ask for Sandy or Don to register your battery accordingly. 083 242 0677 or 031 829 9122

PS. If you are getting a battery light on the dash i would look past the battery and investigate the alternator as well. You should not get a battery light with the car running at any time.

Wheel alingment. Mmm I am very precise when it comes to this. Throught the years and cars I have owned I have noticed some guys get it right the first or second time. Then you get guys that just cant get it right and then they have the following option send me to another alingment place or my money back and ill find another place. Worst experience was when they tried 5 times on a simple ford bantam and then went to another friend of them and that was another 3 times before they got it right. Still have the little work horse and took it for tyres and then alingment to my place that I found through BMW and that guy sets it right first time spot on. All my BMWs also go to him that I have had and it was spot on every time. He knows his stuff. Well done Tyre Mart in Paarl.
