Whats new in 2016

So i have had the 340i MPPKS for over a year and maybe some observations are due.
Having had a number of 335's ,and good specimens at that, lets compare.
Firstly getting into the car you do notice the 10mm that the car sits lower to the ground. The seats just seem to sit that much more comfortable and to me are far more acceptable on long trips.
Start the engine and you hear a far different sound to the 335.This new modular motor is larger capacity,2998cc, and sounds crazy like the m135's.
Then the toys. The exhaust system can be altered on the I drive and sounds different on each setting. This is due to exhaust flaps that are opened and shut on each setting. In other words gasses from the motor will either run with both exhaust through silencer,or one exhaust runs through silencer,or gasses emit straight out without silencer.Remember the days when you changed exhaust systems. All done by pushing a button. In sports + the system is completely open and sounds awesome.Cracks and pops are the order of the day.On the open road this setting is no good as there is drone.Easy enough push to comfort or eco and everything goes all quiet.
Next how the MPPKS is identified in the car.Push to the sport dialls and these are the figures that come up.

The standard car has 240 and 450 as limits.
I always use 10% ethanol ,as suggested on fuel cap, and have seen figures of 275kw and 520nm come up.
Pull away and the car feels much more relaxed. This i think is due to the longer diff ratio. The car will cruise at 130km/h with revs sitting at 1900.In top gear (8th auto) the 335 does 63km/h per 1000rpm while the 340 does 69km/h per 1000rpm.The gearbox is ultra smooth and changes up to the next gear much quicker than before. This is the first car that i have had that actually cruises under 1000rpm in 8th gear.In other words when in town on a 60km/h zone set speed control to 65 and the car wll stay in 8th gear at 900rpm.

Head out onto the open road, stick to the speed limit and you will be amazed by the fuel economy.

The problem is that like the M135 this car does have the tendancy to make a hooligan out of you and figures of 14litres/100km come up very quickly.

Now the best part for the performance orientated guys. The 340i is very quick.Due to the longer diff ratio and the bigger turbo there is a bit of lag on pulloff but after that ther is no comparison to the 335.
Below is the performance log done on both cars using same track, same testing equipment and similar weather condition. On the sheet is the comparison how much speed difference over distance and time difference. Note the 100 to 200 time in particular. Due to the bigger turbo over the 335 there is no longer a need to change at 5800rpm and the car revs and pulls strong all the way to 7000rpm.

As can be seen the car does not need more than the track length to hit the speed limiter.

I am very happy i made the choice to buy this vehicle.

Congrats!

Great car, and an awesome review.

What is MPPKS?

It is BMW"S own software conversion that pushes up power from 240 to 265kw and 450nm to 500nm torque. This is a minumum figure and if fuel is altered more power is available. The second part is the complete exhaust system from front to back that includes all the different settings. The S stands for sound system.
You can order the car from the factory with this option.

That is an amazing car. fuel consumption to make anyone envious, especially with amount of power on tap...
