I wouldn't touch any BMW with a ten foot pole if my R2m car exploded and they offered me R400k less than that 1yr later (how many km did you even do in the thing???)

I'd fight for a better buy back, try to get your knock down to around R200k or so and just walk to another brand. This sort of treatment shouldn't be rewarded with another sale...
this is only if i stay with BMW. If i go another brand they take back a "good will" adjustment of another 100k. I have lost enough.

I did 24k km in it . I drive about 40 - 50k per year. Work stuff included and I support offices all around SA. so lots of driving.

Sadly, this is a "that sucks" story now.

MIOSA don't have teeth, so either lawyer up and hope to win with costs or just take the hit and walk away.

If you can't/don't want to afford that, I'd take the car and just drive it and see what happens. Obviously you need to establish what was fixed beforehand, but maybe it's fine now (crosses fingers?) You said you do like the X5 platform?

You've got 75k km left for more stuff to break and for you to keep getting them to fix it, next time just make sure they give you a decent courtesy car!

To be fair, this is a lemon, and not the standard BMW experience re reliability etc so I wouldn't go elsewhere on that front given the cumulative loss that you would experience, as you going to trade down drastically for the same money.

The BMW and most corporate machines leave much to be desired re customer service, but unfortunately the corporates wouldn't bat an eye losing one customer, and you can make a principled decision to leave the BMW stable, but you the only one losing financially.

I definitely would not take this kind of knock. I wonder how this would play out if the car was financed.

In your position, I’d take the fixed car and flog it before MP expires.

BMW SA should be doing the most to keep you driving a BMW. I'm sure they have policies in place for these type of events. The selling dealer should replace the lemon with another M50d of similar spec and BMW SA must cover the shortfall.

To me this seems like a total F**k you, we don't value you as a customer.

This whole clusterf**k needs to be taken to the media.

I am pushing for as much as I can. So far if I take a new car from them the give 2% discount then another 5% after that but no dealer assistance on the 2024 models especially the LCI ones. So I told them if they want me out their hair give me another 200k to get the new car to R1.95 mil and I will pay in the diff to get into the latest X5, down to the 40i or up to 60i

Personally i dont think they care if they lose a customer or not, otherwise they would have helped first time. Just look at the "sponsorship" they getting from the goverment allone ( Posted also somewhere on the forum ) But yes still love the brand .

That sounds reasonable, i would stick to this. The lawyer route will suck a pile of cash and time and you will still be stuck with the car in that time.

They not lying. The 7% is all in. They can ask BMW SA for additional assistance - but this is highly unlikely as X5 LCI stock is difficult to supply.

Correct the LCI is very very hard to come buy. There is one 40i and one 60i available right now. I have asked for otp on both. The rest cannot get otp as they have a brake issue and will not release these till that is fixed. that will be a 6 week plus waiting list as there are no parts to do the recall fix. So i am now waiting for the final number on the LCI and i think i will be pushing for one of those. With the 40i i can basically get close to no pay in. I would ideally not like to pay in but that 60i is a beast 🥵

If you spending that kind of cash, it's marginal to get the M60i, rather than sit in the 40i and wish you took the M60i.
so true. bank manager not too happy though  due to all the k@k we been through but i just want to get this over with now

Hey Peeps.

What would you do?

X5 M50d, less than 6 months old, at 3 months it went back to BMW for electronics fault, all safety features disables after a few km of driving now both low pressure the smaller turbos need to be replaced. Motor to be removed from the car for this job, Give me your opinion or feeling on this. Me personally feel this car is a Lemon and is going to give me endless troubles if it starts out like this.
Hey, if it is in motorplan, let them fix everything and keep it running as their work has to be warrantied etc. My assumption is not a single bill for you. If not, use it for a bit since you would have repair bills and look for the next buy at the right time.

Its under warranty its less than a year old. But this car has been in for repairs 5 times. Two were serious and one could have caused an accident with my family in the car.

I dont want that thing back. Don't know how far back you went but it had a fire in the engine bay.

My assumption is that if he does this with a long list of repair history on the MP comments and judging by how well it has gone this far he will be in for a bigger loss further down the line. I think the OP is taking the most sensible approach for the hand he was dealt.

Got to leverage the current situation with the car and get a better deal from them on a trade in.

I also wouldn’t accept it back then you have lost your advantage in the deal.

Quite shocked how unlucky you have been on a diesel x5. Is the the reasoning for going over to the petrol engine? Not sure how the new petrol engine in the m60i is but hope it’s allot better that the n63 that was in the 750i, as my family had allot of grief with that motor.

Update:
So I have had enough of this and made the call to buy another car. They could not find me another X5 and the new ones only arrive 22 May something and I need to make a call before 11 May according to MIOSA. if I don't take that offer they will then workout another trade value and then I loose more. If I booked an X5 that is still on the ship I need to return the courtesy car until they release off the ship and the PDI and what what so I could not be without a car that long. So before they raped me anymore I pulled the trigger and took a X7 M60i in Mineral white. I like the white, so hopefully this week coming i will get a call to collect the new set of wheels.
