Trying to buy an m5 wheel from BMW - tried 7 times to get a guy on a phone...GET A CELL NUMBER!

The first issue is not related to the second so it will be difficult to say it's a lemon at this point unless you can link the two items. What exactly was wrong the first time it went in? Was it a loom/voltage/software?

Not uncommon for these 'new' cars to be 6-12 months old (or even older for some brands) as they sit on lots and become nests to wierd and wonderful creatures as well as experiencing issues with drained batteries (recharging batteries is all a dealer will often do... and hope you drive it enough that the voltage doesn't drop too much so the infotainment/safety systems/transmission etc doesn't give random errors). One of my Alfa-owning friends had half the car replaced only to find out that it was just the battery... as we advised...

There are quite a few things that are engine-out on modern cars. Audi it's even worse...

The service is horrendous though - you have to continuously chase up and if I didn't have the workshop manager and service advisor on whatsapp (as someone above suggested), your experience varies GREATLY from dealer to dealer. Fourways is a junk-grade dealer (and so are a few of the Cape Town dealers as well... but I just can't remember if the one your car is at is on that list...)
First issue they had to replace the module for all the safety devices lane assist parking aids all those things stopped working. So cant link it to the turbos going now, still a brand new car.
Car is at Somerset west dealer and Fourways service from my sales lady has been great actually. I have the service advisors number and whatsapp him for as much info as possible but he only says so much

Hey Peeps.

What would you do?

X5 M50d, less than 6 months old, at 3 months it went back to BMW for electronics fault, all safety features disables after a few km of driving now both low pressure the smaller turbos need to be replaced. Motor to be removed from the car for this job, Give me your opinion or feeling on this. Me personally feel this car is a Lemon and is going to give me endless troubles if it starts out like this.
If you have just bought it within 6 months, rather look at getting it returned or repairs to be done by the dealership that sold you this vehicle.

OP would then be liable to transport the vehicle from CPT to JHB.

Disclaimer : Sorry for the long post.

So from here my dream became a nightmare. Car has been returned to BMW 5 times since ownership. First time was cosmetic tweeters fell out for some reason? Day one actually, anyways. Then in June it lost all its driver assistance faulty. Took 3 weeks and new harness and sensors.

Then end September see oil on the paving, get under inspect the whole right had side oil everywhere. I was working in Cape Town at this time also due to travel home. BMW asks can the car drive I say yes they ask please bring it in, this is Wednesday. Wife takes car in and they call me later. Sorry sir the car needs repairs they need to keep it a few days. I ca cool can I come collect my mobility vehicle, no he says because I drove the car there I cannot get mobility. I call BMW SA explain and they tell me that's policy F@CK sakes. Any ways I am there with the family they holiday while I work in our Paarl office. Saturday we need to go home they get me a Rental from Avis for 5 days. We drive home with the rental (there is more to this but too much for now.)

Return the rental 5 days later fly back to Cape to work for another 2 weeks there, day before I fly back ( I did ask them do I book one way ticket and drive my car home will it be ready, no they say), they call me. Sir your vehicle is ready when will come collect.

S I remind them about our convo 2 weeks ago. Ok he says puts the phone down. I carry on fly home this is now mid Oct. a week later get another call, Sir your vehicle is ready when will come collect, I remind them I live in Jozi I was there for work get my car back to me. Yes Sir we will send a driver. No thank you put it on a truck, back to a fight with BMW SA, a week later, yes sir we will send the car by truck.

I collect first week of November, Repairs done replaced both lower turbos, boost pipes oil feed lines Missing gasket on intercooler, Yes missing gasket, I read all this shot and tell them I don't want the car anymore. No sir most of the work was precaution so that you don't ever have any other issues.

I take their word drive the car it stinks of oil. Please return we will do a proper wash. Why not the first f@cking time, not like I can just drive from Krugersdorp to Cedar when they want I also have to work.

Anyways 2 weeks later family pack in we off to Cape Town again for work and then some holiday, car starts making a clunking on right front, push button this time BMW on call asks me any warning lights I say no it sound like something is loose. Carry on driving and take it to a branch when they open the 27th of Dec, now I am boiling I park it and drive skoonma's 540i.

Take it in the 27th to the same place that did the turbo's job. I go have coffee before I even take a sip I see the car coming out. We done sir it was just a control arm that came out the bushing we pushed it back and tied the nut properly, WTF.

Take the car drive home 16 Jan no issues I still thank my car gave it a hug saying thank you for taking us to Cape Town and this time driving us back.

My words were not cold 18 Jan I need to go work in Standerton. Just get passed Carnival city and it will not go past 90km/h, was behind a truck and when I had a gap I wanted to go it did not. Push the magic button BMW says turn around go back to carnival and wait at the Engen there.

I have a vid but not sure how to post it, anyway I get to the Garage, stop and go for a leak. Get out the loo and the petrol attendant is screaming at me, Sir move your please move your car, I get out and see its smoking and I have parked there where the fill the main fuel tanks, jump in luckily its starts and I reverse to the grass on the opposite side. It’s still smoking I take out my little fire extinguisher and ask the attendant to bring two more. (I am an advanced trained firefighter) so I just watch it should die if it does not get more air. 20 min later no more smoke.

Then while I am waiting for tow truck to arrive I found this pic you see attached.

Remember this is 18 January 2024, lots of back and forth and I really do not want this Vin number back in my possession ever, I found out that there was an actual fire under there not just something that melted or oil that got warm and smoked, there was a fire and It burnt stuff under the bonnet but they don’t tell me the extent of the damage, they have asked BMW to send to representatives to investigate and they land the 26th of Feb.

I don’t want the car they also cannot tell me anything as to what the plan is after this investigation, I did not buy it with finance through a bank, so I cannot just amend the contract and buy another, this is a mess and I feel BMW can take their car do what they want with it and replace mine so I can carry on with my life.

Comments suggestions Help with BMW someone know something or someone that can help me?

So sorry bud, my heart breaks for you.

Please try legal route and also keep on BMW SA’s necks to have this remedied.

Heads must roll then bud!

This is unacceptable for a new car.

Sorry I missed that and thought you bought a used car with a rough history resulting in all these issues.

Ombudsman tunes they must take the car back sell it and whatever come from that i will get back, they need to take into consideration wear and tear and and and, its never been right for more that two months at a time, always an issue. SO i never actually received a properly working car from them.
