dude, its an anti-hijack device - you keep it in your driver door panel - when a suspected hijacker appears , firstly ask him to kindly step away from the vehicle, then carefully pull this tool from the door panel, careful not to scratch the door panel or window, then make an angry face like :argh: point the device at him and drive off .... jaaa thats it.

Its not for the roof, The roof has a cable release and then you manually open/close the roof. The tool is meant to be there, i saw a youtube video where another e36 had the same tool except the guy used it as a current conducter.

Nope. A thin flat screwdriver works well for that. This tool is way too big for that
