Howzit gents,

I recently sold my car and now i'm looking for an e36 m3 (German spec/SA spec or a 4 door).

What should I look out for in particular?

Many of them have noisy hydraulic lifters/tappets. Is this a majour problem?

I have seen quiet a few but most were in accidents.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It can be quite hard to find one that has not been ragged. Things to check for are rusty arches, battery compartment also rusts away. RTAB's wear out as do the wishbone bushes. Diff leaks from the seal. Rattly VANOS although not too much of a problem. EVO's are more susceptible to rattly VANOS. It is not rare for either to spin shells. Happens just as much with 3l as with EVO's. Best thing to do is try find the. Best looking M3 in the best condition with the lowest KM's on the clock as you can

I came across an M3 forum (sorry, don't have the link) discussing buying a used M3. Basically you have to be prepared to spend some money and a bit more in maintenance. Also, remember the E36 lacks way behind the newer generations in terms of safety. This was not stated on said forum :=): Just something to keep in mind.
