What to get for around 50k?

Howdie y'all

My brother had an accident in his e46 328i. The truck in front of him lost its propshaft and he tried to avoid it as much as possible but ended up driving over it on the left hand side of the car.

Estimated damage is around R70k and the value of the car is only arounf R55k, so they have written it off. Damage was to the left fender, control arm (Completely broken) and other miscellaneous motor damage.

So now that the insurance is paying out, what kind of beemer can het get, or what kind of car could he get for around the R50k price. Nothing will compare to what he had - it was upgraded to the facelift lights, eibach spring set, K&N filter, wicked 18inch rims etc etc. My hearts bleeds for him having to think that he is only getting paid out about 50k

so what say ye bmwfanatics - what's out there?

thanks

Your Duckyness....

You may be able to get into a pre-facelift E46 for that, alternatively, look at E39's going 528's, 45k is what they go for.

E36 328's are also a good bet, you can buy a clean one for around 35 to 40, and have 10k left for mods.

e34 540i with enough left for mods to make Jandre go green ,even fit a flux capacitor :roflol:
Has Insurance kept the car , he may be able to get it for 15 percent of payout then part it out make a few bucks there ,or buy a cheepie for now then a e46 body and fit a 330i motor with proceeds from parts sales .

I was thinking of the same with the buy back, but he isn' that keen - pity.

I saw a few 530d's 2000 model for around the R50k mark, so will see what he does. The thing is that he wants to get something fairly quick as our old man uses the car to fetch kids from school etc.

Will let you know if he gets another beemer or not, but for now - the hunt is on.

thanks for the help so far - always appreciated!

For R50 000, i would do:

Return Flight & accomodation (2 days) to the Nurburgring: R10 000.
Car rental 320i (5 days unlimitted) R4 000.
BMW factory Munich (R800)
BMW museum Munich (R350)

Fly from frankfurt to Venice or Paris (most romantic cities in the world)...two days (R6 000 including accomodation)

R5 000 for food, souveniers and touristy things while traveling.

The balance? Buy a return ticket for wife or girlfriend. Remember her accomodation is already covered by yours...so roughly you will pay R R9 000 in total for her flight including to Venice or Paris.

After the trip walk into a bmw dealership and buy your dream car and put down R10 000 deposit.

But that is what i would do with R50 gran except fot the last part...have enough toys for now.

Sorry to hear about his accident, I glad that he is fine though.

I would also recommend going the e34 540i route as for 50k he could get a pretty decent one and have enough left over to get a proper exhaust so it sounds like a V8  and add a little extra to what he has left and he could probably do the manual swap as well.

Jinne ouens - you blokes know how to pull a poepol out a chicken!

:sorry: When i say quick, as in short time span - not a quick car! Chops:bangdesk:

By the looks of it, My boet is going to use the cash he gets from the insurance to sort out my old man's bakkie. Then my boet will just use his bike in the mean time to get around and find a car when the time is right - no apparent rush.

Thanks for the help anyway boys - it is always appreciated:ty::praise:

good luck , we are all in this position sometimes and we buy a car only to find a lower kilo , cleaner and better priced one a week later !! Hope your boet gets a good set of wheels soon -at least summer is better for a bike-only afternoon showers cause havoc.
