What to check for when buying?

Hi all!

I'm new to this forum and hopefully buying my 3rd BMW by the end of this week.

Had a e30 325 (written off) and a e39 530d (sold)

Now I found a 1987 e30 325 on the internet for under R40000 from the original owner. I plan on going to Jhb from Vryburg to go check it out (and hopefully find what I am looking for)

Any tips what I should be looking at when I'm there? (Other than the obvious)

Well if it is in JHB then chances are it has been used for spinning at some point in time, so check the motor, the m20's are strong, but they can still have problems check for smoking and such. Then also check for rust on the battery tray, if it has also check lower down on the chassis rail below it for rust. Then rust in the spare wheel well, the two wells to the side of the boot, then all the foot wells.
