Okay so even though The Witch isn`t running at the moment there si something I would like to find out ever since I bought her.

Her papers states she is a 94 316i, which I thought was a 1.8.
Inserting the VIN number in realoem i got back that she is a 318i 95 model which according to my cars manual is also a 1.8.
Also most people I talk to knows about the M40 and M42 motor in E36, but mine according to realoem has a M43 motor which is a 1.9.
All the info I find on the M43 motor sais its a E46 motor and not E36.

So any ideas of what motor is actually in the car or am I missing something somewhere?

She is not running at the moment so forget about what she had.

Concentrate on a S50 or S54 transplant. Or if you wanna cheat 2JZ.

Looks like a M43 to me - Great engine to have

Now change the Airflow metre to a MAF from the E46 & get a Uni chip & get some extra power

There is nothing to be confused about i have exactly the same engine in my e36. It was the first m43 engines just before they started with the e46 models so, the early e46 came with the same engine just added a plastic intake to the e46. I know as i also own a early model e46 318i with the same engine just a plastic intake. The only difference between the two is the one has an extrnal crank sensor that runs of a pully and the newer engine runs of a gear located on the side of the block running directly of the crank itself. I wil post pictures as soon as i can as I'm out of town for a while.

Ps: I'm no mechanic or a bmw engine guru.

So sorry for the edit i forgot to say yours will probably be the 1.8 and not the 1.9 and i see the post is almost a year old so i hope you wil stil be reading this
