What is going on here? EGR leak? BMW 330d F30

Hi guys

Had a quick inspection under the hood today after giving the MAF Sensor a clean and noticed this soot leaking out from one of the pipes. Is this an EGR cooler leak perhaps

Location is front left of the car

Looks like the pipe coming from the intercooler to the throttle.

If you take that pipe off there is normally a little oring on the inside. Replace that oring with a new one

Seems to be a common thing, I had the same issue on my F30 330d at 95k and know of 4 others who encountered the same.

What mileage are you on?

As Danny as mentioned, you need to replace the rubber seal that sits in the boost pipe. Remember to put the new seal in the correct way and back in the same groove as there are two grooves on each side of the pipe.

Since you are going to be removing the pipe you might as well change the seal on the bottom of the pipe as well, they are around R200 each from bmw.

You will definitely notice an improvement in the low-end torque and throttle response with the new seals.

Thanks for the info and help guys, it's much appreciated. As you can see i am not the most clued up when it comes to engines :p

@S1NGH 911 - I will do both at the same time. You don't perhaps have part numbers for these seals?

Onces the pipes are off can i give them a wipe down and spray with a high pressure hose? Seems to be a lot of gunk stuck to it

It's either one of these part numbers, there has been a supersession:

11618506786 / 13718596850 - preformed seal for the charge airline

You should clean the pipe thoroughly, although I would not recommend using a high pressure hose.

Let us know how it goes

Replaced the seals and no leaks as yet. The old seals still looked to be in perfect condition but having been superseded maybe the new ones are a better/tighter fit

It was a mission to get to from the top of the engine bay. For anyone else doing this i recommend doing it from the bottom of the car

I'm quite certain the car has a boost leak. I can hear quite some hiss coming from what seems like the RHS of the engine bay when flooring the car. Not sure if this is just what the 3.d's sound like or if there's a slight leak somewhere

Is there anyone i can take the vehicle to that can do a smoke test or compressor test?
